Chemical Dependency Counselor jobs in Virginia

The Chemical Dependency Counselor works in concert with the client's Primary, Dual Diagnosis Therapist, with focus on addiction, recovery and aftercare plan. The CD Counselor also works as a part of the Client’s Treatment Team members. CD Counselor may also conduct groups such as Assignment Group, Family Education, Life Skills/Didactic Groups, Relapse Prevention and others, with the appropriate training.

Qualifications

• Active license in good standing in the Commonwealth of Virginia (CSAC or CADC) or be willing to obtain one if transferring from another State/newly licensed
• Graduation from an accredited College with a relevant Degree Program.
• Must possess effective communication skills in order to effectively interact with patients, families, and facility staff.
• Advanced computer knowledge and experience with word processing and spreadsheet creation (Mac and/or Microsoft platforms)
• Current TB skin test
• Working knowledge and ability to appropriately utilize the contributions of various addiction philosophies, counseling models, and treatment practices as they apply to providing substance abuse counseling to clients.
• Experience with military/1st Responders (Preferred)
• Knowledge of 12 – Steps
• HIPAA Compliant

Responsibilities

• Individual counseling sessions for clients
• Group Counseling
• Charting of all assessments, sessions and groups
• Attend Treatment Team Staffing
• Provide clinical recommendations for continued support and treatment
• Maintain and Exceed individual JCAHO compliance, Virginia State compliance and other regulatory agencies
• Contact with family members, crisis interventions, etc
