Chemical Dependency Counselor runs individual, family, and group counseling for patients in chemical dependency programs. Acts as mediator between patients, relatives, medical staff, and outside agencies if needed. Being a Chemical Dependency Counselor tracks patient progress and dispensation of treatment services. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent; meets the standards for Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification Board, or other appropriate certification. Additionally, Chemical Dependency Counselor typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Chemical Dependency Counselor's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. The Chemical Dependency Counselor works in concert with the client's Primary, Dual Diagnosis Therapist, with focus on addiction, recovery and aftercare plan. The CD Counselor also works as a part of the Client’s Treatment Team members. CD Counselor may also conduct groups such as Assignment Group, Family Education, Life Skills/Didactic Groups, Relapse Prevention and others, with the appropriate training.
