Chemical Plant Operator controls equipment and systems that process chemical substances and materials into products. Operates equipment and monitors the production process to ensure efficient and safe output. Being a Chemical Plant Operator follows standard operating procedures and performs in process quality checks to identify and resolve issues during processing. Troubleshoots problems with equipment, respond to system notifications and makes required adjustments as needed. Additionally, Chemical Plant Operator enters required production data and information into logs. May unload or move materials. Follows all procedures for safe material handling and required safety gear. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or team leader. The Chemical Plant Operator works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Job Description

    Norco is currently seeking an individual to fill our Acetylene Plant Operator position. The Acetylene Plant Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the Acetylene Plant and safe filling of all acetylene cylinders. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • The safe start up and shut down of the plant at the beginning or end of the day
    • Operate and monitoring plant during operation
    • Recording required information on logs at required time intervals
    • Safely filling Hydrogen, Chemtane, and Propane according to procedures
    • Respond to any alarms, assess the problem and initiate the appropriate corrective action
    • Perform visual inspection on cylinders prior to filling
    • Safely fill acetylene cylinders and perform leak checks on all cylinders at predetermined PSIG
    • Verify labeling is correct and readable on filled cylinders
    • Follow established procedures for blowing acetylene cylinders down and getting them ready for re-qualification or maintenance 
    • Perform other tasks as assigned or necessary
    • Wage $18-$19/Hr

    Qualifications

    • Accurately enter data into computers
    • Acquire a working knowledge of any software applications necessary to the position
    • Perform basic mathematics calculations
    • Perform tasks requiring manual dexterity (i.e. processing paperwork, filing, stapling, sorting, etc.)
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
    • Previous knowledge of cylinders and gases
