Follows all procedures for safe material handling and required safety gear. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or team leader. The Chemical Plant Operator works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. General Description: The Plant Operator performs tasks relating to the purchasing, processing, and shipping of recyclable metal, paper, and plastic grades. The Operator grades and processes materials using a variety of tools and machinery and loads the trucks with material for shipment as well as accepts other duties as necessary for efficient and productive plant operation. The operator interacts with the public as individuals come to sell their items and also interacts with commercial drivers who are delivering or picking up materials. As the Plant Operator is the first person that the public interacts with, customer service is a critical component of a Plant Operator’s role and success.
