Chemical Plant Operator controls equipment and systems that process chemical substances and materials into products. Operates equipment and monitors the production process to ensure efficient and safe output. Being a Chemical Plant Operator follows standard operating procedures and performs in process quality checks to identify and resolve issues during processing. Troubleshoots problems with equipment, respond to system notifications and makes required adjustments as needed. Additionally, Chemical Plant Operator enters required production data and information into logs. May unload or move materials. Follows all procedures for safe material handling and required safety gear. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or team leader. The Chemical Plant Operator works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     General Description: The Plant Operator performs tasks relating to the purchasing, processing, and shipping of recyclable metal, paper, and plastic grades. The Operator grades and processes materials using a variety of tools and machinery and loads the trucks with material for shipment as well as accepts other duties as necessary for efficient and productive plant operation. The operator interacts with the public as individuals come to sell their items and also interacts with commercial drivers who are delivering or picking up materials. As the Plant Operator is the first person that the public interacts with, customer service is a critical component of a Plant Operator’s role and success.

    Company Description: Yuma Recyclers is a recycling company that buys paper, plastics, and metals from the public and from commercial generators. Individuals bring in their material and are paid for them at the time of delivery. The materials are consolidated and transported to the mills that reuse them. The company is looking for an individual that is seeking long-term year-round employment in a growing industry.

    Essential Duties:

    • Grade or sort materials with like materials to maintain quality control
    • Comply with OSHA and company safety policy and procedures
    • Strictly adhere to Yuma Recycler’s Health, Safety, and Environmental standards
    • Provide efficient and courteous service to customers and vendors at the buy-back window
    • Accept other duties as necessary for plant operation

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Must be 18 years old and legally able to work in the United States
    • Successfully complete pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check
    • Able to learn the identification of the grades of materials received
    • Able to communicate in English both oral and written (preferred)
    • Must have 2 years of continuous work experience
    • Able to work overtime as needed

    Physical Requirements:

    • Able to stand continuously for long periods
    • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects more than 45 pounds frequently
    • Able pushing, pulling, bending, twisting and lifting up to 45 pounds
    • The ability to bend, stoop and reach above the shoulders is required
    • Able to hear and see well, including good hand-eye coordination and strong depth perception
    • Good motor coordination with arm, hand, finger, and leg dexterity
    • Able to work outside 100% of the day while exposed to the extreme weather
    • Will be exposed to a physical environment, odors, noise, extremes weather or similar elements most of the workday
