Chemical Technician determines the physical and chemical properties of compounds and materials using quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis. Performs a variety of chemical tests using instrumental methods and standard test equipment. Being a Chemical Technician prepares materials for laboratory examination and conducts quality, safety, and compliance assessments. Follows established SOPs. Additionally, Chemical Technician sets up and maintains lab equipment. Records and tabulates data and documents observations and results. Requires an associate degree in chemistry, science or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Chemical Technician works under moderate supervision.     Essential Functions:

    • Ensure high standards of safety are developed, met and maintained
    • Arrange, conduct and coordinate the internal safety inspections and follow up with deficiencies and recommendations
    • Ensure facilities and grounds are maintained in accordance with relevant regulations, agency standards, and fiscal consideration
    • Develop, implement, and review regularly site-specific maintenance logs
    • Evaluate long-term needs in relation major projects and property improvement
    • Coordinate, arrange and supervise the completion of corrective and preventative maintenance in accordance with agency operating procedures, practices, and financial considerations
    • Ensure major equipment and furnishings are maintained in safe, operable condition and/or arrange for placement
    • Establish procedures and contacts to ensure timely repairs of equipment
    • Secure major equipment bids and makes recommendations for purchase when replacement or new equipment is equipment
    • Provide staff training in a variety or safety and maintenance topics including:  effective utilization of maintenance logs, completion of routine maintenance specific to the facility, equipment operations, multimedia safety training
    • Development of policies and procedures related to maintenance and safety
    • Participate in annual budget preparation as it relates to the safety and maintenance of facilities, grounds and equipment
    • Develop and maintain a formal Preventative Maintenance program for all major equipment or as specified by the Plant Manager
    • Manages all labor costs and determines whether work is to be completed in-house or out-sourced; while keeping in mind the overall competencies of the plant maintenance staff
    • Initiate the purchase of all repairs and maintenance components, including outsourced fabrication and contract labor
    • Maintains appropriate replacement and repair parts including accurate inventories

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    • BS degree and 5 years’ experience in all phases of building maintenance or
    • AS degree and 8 – 10 years’ experience in all phases of building maintenance
    • Supervisory experience is required
    • Experience in estimating maintenance and repair costs

    Experience / Abilities:

    • Thorough understanding of building and facility systems including HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Compressed Air, Boiler, Power, Lighting and Security
    • Thorough understanding of plant machinery
    • Strong ability to prioritize in a quickly changing environment
    • Ability to motivate team efforts in order to accomplish goals
    • Must be computer literate with strong Microsoft Office skills
    • Strong interpersonal and people management skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Equipment skills:

    • Hand tools, digital multi-meter, power tools, Forklift, Scissor Lift, Boom Lift etc
