Chemical Technician determines the physical and chemical properties of compounds and materials using quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis. Performs a variety of chemical tests using instrumental methods and standard test equipment. Being a Chemical Technician prepares materials for laboratory examination and conducts quality, safety, and compliance assessments. Follows established SOPs. Additionally, Chemical Technician sets up and maintains lab equipment. Records and tabulates data and documents observations and results. Requires an associate degree in chemistry, science or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Chemical Technician works under moderate supervision. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Background experience in chemical manufacturing.
2. Background experience in Lean Manufacturing.
3. Background experience Kaizen in Events strongly preferred.
4. Background experience in Root Cause Analysis.
5. Must have a fundamental understanding of explosives/pyrotechnics.
6. Four (4) year degree in engineering or manufacturing technology an asset.
7. Working knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
8. Must be capable of reading and understanding DoD drawings.
9. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
10. Be able to read, speak, and understand English.
11. Must be able to work and communicate well at all levels, internal and external to the organization.
12. Must be courteous, tactful, and objective While working to ensure that production, quality, safety and service objectives are maintained throughout the organization.
13. Must have the ability to make judgments based on factual data and manage multiple projects and tasks.
14. Background knowledge of Military Standards helpful.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Work with Chief Chemist and Facility Manager on updates, continual improvement, and any root cause analysis.
2. Work with and oversee continuous improvement and root cause analysis for production lines.
3. Work with Chief Chemist on new product development.
4. Work with Chief Chemist on product testing.
5. Collaborate in such things as the improvement of production methods and equipment and the improvement of standards of quality.
6. Advise management of areas of possible improvement in regard to innovation, technology and environment.
7. Submit weekly status reports of on-going projects to Chief Chemist
8. Act as Research & Development/ Chemist on open projects and genesis programs.
9. Support all new EX number applications through existing APA 87-1 or for those applications outside of APA 87-1.
10. Advise management regarding safety planning at the facility.
11. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
12. Participate with Virginia PbG and Management during weekly staff meetings via electronic communication as applicable
