  • Basic Function

    HF Sinclair Parco Refining LLC in Sinclair, WY is seeking a Chemist who conducts routine and non-routine chemistry/laboratory assignments for the Lab Department under limited supervision. May lead the work of others from time-to-time.

    Job Duties

    • Conducts standard tests on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products and may train others to perform standard tests.
    • Aids in the development of methodologies with new equipment and/or projects to expand current equipment capabilities.
    • Assists writing procedures as needed and ensure testing is carried out as per established methods/procedures.
    • Ensures the quality of work through quality assurance testing and documentation through Proficiency Testing Program Root Cause Analysis.
    • Records, reports, and certifies results.
    • Performs routine maintenance and calibrations on laboratory equipment as scheduled and in depth troubleshooting as needed.
    • Prepare purchase requisitions for laboratory supplies and equipment.
    • Vendor service support contracts for annual PM as needed.

    May also perform other duties, including:

    • Supports other departments in sampling, testing, and compliance monitoring, particularly with non-routine sampling/testing.
    • Operates laboratory equipment as needed or assigned.
    • Comply reporting and audit support.
    • LIMS proficiency in sample login, data entry, SQC charting, and occasional ADMIN support.
    • Works with outside testing laboratories to coordinate special requests and compliance testing.

    Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

    Experience

    Refinery Laboratory experience preferred but not required.


    Education Level

    A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Chemistry or related field is required.

    Required Skills

    Working knowledge of laboratory testing and ability to apply this knowledge. Working knowledge of petroleum products and testing. Depending on location, may require the ability to train and lead the work of others. Intermediate reading and writing skills, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations, effective communication with others, both written and verbal communication.


    Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

    None.

    Work Conditions

    Office based with occasional refinery visits, and up to 10% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery/industrial environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and rotating equipment. Subject to all weather, and varying road conditions.


    Physical Requirements

    Job conditions require standing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, and wearing personal protective equipment (beards not permitted). Job conditions may require sitting, walking, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, and lifting and/or carrying up to 10lbs, and pushing and/or pulling up to 10 lbs, and perceiving color differences, and strenuous physical activity.
