The Market Chief Financial Officer leads the financial operations of their respective market and serves as a strategic partner to the Market President. Responsibilities include developing and executing financial strategies, initiatives, systems, and processes that optimize current and future performance. Utilizes a system minded approach that ensures financial policies and procedures are consistently and accurately reflected in the philosophy, approach, and everyday aspects of financial operations across the market. Functions in an active leadership role as a member of the market’s executive team, facilitates communication and support to the market’s Board and appropriate committees. This position also provides leadership, guidance and direction to capital planning, financial planning, financial reporting, revenue cycle, accounting, reimbursement, and operating entity support functions through a well aligned coordination with the respective Bon Secours Mercy Health shared service leaders. The Market CFO is responsible to the BSMH CFO-Markets with dotted line accountability to the Market President. The Market CFO also works closely with the market executive leadership team, hospital leaders, and shared service functions supporting the market.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assume a lead role in analyzing and exploring means of reducing operating costs and increasing revenues based on knowledge of market trends, financial reports, and operating procedures.
- Direct the preparation of internal financial reports, ensuring that the reports reliably reflect the financial position of the market.
- Direct the timely submission of all financial data associated reports required by government and other regulated agencies.
- Identify and report undesirable trends and potential business opportunities and making recommendations for action.
- Assist the Market President in the development of long and short-range operations plans which may include service demand analyses, resources availability analyses, productivity, and cost benefit analyses of proposed capital and staff expansions.
- Develop long and short range operational and capital budgets which are supported by the markets long and short-range plans and objectives.
- Direct the preparation of statistical reports, budgets, and financial reports.
- Facilitate the general accounting, revenue cycle, financial, and statistical reporting functions of the market in accordance with established policies and accounting procedures.
- Provide informal direction in a matrix management environment. Monitoring performance to ensure fiscal responsibilities are fulfilled.
- Forecast the impact of business decision and expected outcomes on all financial results.
- Monitor financial and economic information to identify trends and indicators that may impact business operations, planning, investments, and so forth.
- Communicate financial operational performance with all stakeholders, including senior administration, local board of directors, appropriate facility staff members and system finance leaders.
- Review revenue cycle issues and trends for maximizing net reimbursement for Facility.
- Review contracts, purchase agreements, and other financial arrangements to ensure compatibility with business goals and expectations about profitability and stewardship.
- Actively participates in Bon Secours Mercy Health projects as assigned.
- Actively participate on local Joint Venture Board of Directors and other local community boards as requested.
- Facilitates the growth and development of the finance team, positioning our internal talent for upward career mobility.
REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s Degree – Business, Accounting or Finance or related field
- Eight or more years of progressive financial leadership experience with significant time in a healthcare setting
- Demonstrated history of effective operations management, including compliance with financial rules and regulations, while managing to budgetary expectations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated and able to prioritize multiple competing priorities and deadlines
- Able to work effectively in a team environment and have excellent rapport with management, colleagues, and subordinates
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Excellent supervisory skills
PREFERRED
- MBA or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Healthcare Administration
- CPA
