Job Description The Academic Advisor will provide academic advising to newly admitted students as well as current undergraduate students at Idaho State University, with a special focus on supporting ISU Navigate student success and retention initiatives for College of Business or College of Arts and Letters students. This employee will actively participate in all academic advisor activities and responsibilities. The academic advisor will communicate regularly with and provide personalized assistance to all assigned students as they make progress toward their educational goals, providing accurate and helpful information. This employee will also work closely with professors, fellow advisors, the immediate supervisor, and university administrators to support student success. Key Responsibilities ● Schedule and meet regularly with all assigned advisees.
● Assist advisees in course registration, and monitor academic progress.
● Effectively communicate institutional standards for graduation.
● Work closely with assigned academic departments and ensure accurate advisement and a thorough understanding of the various program and course requirements.
● Connect students to campus resources as necessary.
● Work within the current academic advising initiatives to promote a coordinated, proactive advising environment.
● Serve on university committees as requested.
● Communicate effectively with all advising entities and other key departments across campus.
Minimum Qualifications ● Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. ● At least two years experience in academic advising in a post-secondary education environment.
● Academic advising experience at the high school or post-secondary education level.
● Knowledge of higher education retention issues and approaches.
● Knowledge of academic improvement strategies for students in academic difficulty.
● Demonstrated ability to work independently and creatively.
● Strong written, interpersonal, group and public speaking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience utilizing a student success platform such as EAB Navigate.
