  • SUMMARY:

    The Vice President for Finance / Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible and accountable for

    all financial modeling, budget planning, financial analysis, financial controls and management,

    and financial strategy across the College. The CFO works closely with the President and College

    leadership to develop strategies and drive organizational change, including alignment of existing

    resources and identification/development of new revenue sources, to achieve the College's goals.

    The CFO serves as a member of the Audit Committee and Finance Committee and works with

    members of the President's staff in all areas of financial responsibility.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Financial Reporting and Planning

    Prepares and maintains long-term financial forecasts for all of the college's

    funds. Monitors both short and long-term internal and external financial and operational

    developments to ensure that forecasts are current and accurate.

    Contributes to the college meeting its strategic objectives by assisting administrators and

    department heads in conducting financial analysis and cost-effectiveness of current and

    proposed initiatives.

    Monitors the college's financial condition and provides budget information to budget

    supervisors. Oversees preparation of monthly financial statements for the college

    Reports the financial condition of the college to the board of trustees, and the College

    president and administrators regularly.

    Establishes, coordinates, maintains, and systematically reviews the process for financial

    evaluation of the College's programs and activities.

    Budget Preparation

    Lead preparation of the annual budget whereby organizational needs are identified,

    consensus on priorities is obtained and translates the consensus into a financial plan.

    Develops procedures integrating business and strategic planning into the annual budget

    process.

    Monitors external events and developments to ensure that budget preparation incorporates

    the most current information.

    Uses a forecasting model to predict student enrollment.

    Investment, Cash and Debt Management

    Monitors cash flow. Oversees investment activities to ensure an appropriate supply of cash

    at the highest possible yield on idle funds while complying with statutory limitations on

    types of investments.

    Coordinates and monitors debt issuance with external financial advisors, bond counsel, etc.

    Ensures the timely collection of all accounts receivable.

    Monitors cash reserves to provide maximum practical protection.

    Business Services

    Provides oversight and advice regarding College financial risk.

    Coordinates the purchasing activities of the College, including contract management.

    Ensures that the College complies with financial regulatory, legal, administrative,

    collectively bargained, contractual, procedural, and accounting standards.

    General Supervision and Management

    Identifies, recommends, and implements appropriate/necessary training and professional

    development for self and staff reporting to the position.

    Conducts and oversees work activity to increase efficiency of and improve the

    effectiveness and productivity of assigned areas.

    Supports HLC and other accreditation efforts.

    Performs other related tasks as required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

    ● Effective oral and written communication skills.

    ● Knowledge and experience with complex computer-based financial management systems.

    ● Strong leadership and administrative skills including, but not limited to: strategic planning,

    personnel, budget and resource management, and continuous improvement assessment of

    the unit's operations in all areas.

    ● Strong analytical skills, data interpretation, risk assessment, and resolution skills at an

    Executive level.

    ● Knowledge of higher education funding sources and related policy issues.

    ● Ability to interpret and appropriately apply accounting principles and regulations

    ● Ability to develop and administer fiscal plans, financial systems, policies and procedures.

    ● Ability to communicate financial information to all levels of staff and the public

    effectively, both verbally and in writing

    ● Ability to develop collaborative and strong working relationships with internal and external

    constituencies as a service-oriented professional.

    ● Demonstrated cultural competency and working style that will further the College's

    commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

    ● Ability to manage time and deliver projects in an environment of competing priorities.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    ● Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field.

    ● CPA or master's degree in finance, business, or related field (Required).

    ● Minimum 15 years of accounting experience in a non-profit environment, preferably

    within a higher education.

    ● Five years of experience in an executive supervisory role

    ● Extensive financial and budget management experience in an institution of higher

    education.

    ● Experience in operational and strategic planning, policy development, and financial

    analysis.

    ● Minimuim 5 years of experience with Jenzabar and Jenzabar One
