    We are Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ) serving girls in grades K-12 in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and northern Warren counties. We bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to 18,000 girls and 10,000 adult members. 

    We are looking for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), our Senior Leadership Team and Council Board of Directors to drive the strategic business growth of GSNNJ.


    Position Summary:

    The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for developing, implementing and enhancing GSNNJ’s fiscal policies, procedures and practices, consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), which help advance the Council’s mission and promote fiscal accountability. They will have primary accountability for all Council asset and liability management (financial and real estate) and will oversee fiscal operations, including budgeting, audit, finance and accounting, insurance, payroll, financial and business analyses, financial and cash projections, and financial risk management. They will work closely with the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Council Board of Directors on the strategic business growth and development of the Council. The position reports to the CEO and leads and counsels board leadership on GSNNJ fiscal operations as identified above. 

    Essential Duties include but are not limited to:


    Organizational Leadership & Strategy

    • Support and champion the organization’s strategic initiatives to foster a healthy organizational culture and foster cross departmental collaboration.
    • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the Council. Advise the senior leadership team on the organization’s financial performance and long-term financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investments, and policy matters.
    • Establish credibility throughout the Council and with the Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges, providing technical financial advice and knowledge to others as needed.
    • Work closely with the senior leadership team to develop and drive the execution of the organization's strategic goals and objectives by ensuring that the financial operating structure supports the needs of its programs.
    • Partner with the CEO/President and the Board of Directors to deploy investment capital in the most e?ective manner to achieve the      organization’s long-term strategic initiatives.
    • Uphold the highest ethical standards in financial management and decision-making, ensuring transparency and integrity in all financial      transactions.

    Financial Management

    • Oversee GSNNJ’s financial operations, and work with the CEO to ensure that GSNNJ is financially sound, there are solid financial systems and rigorous internal controls in place.
    • In collaboration with the executive and finance teams, oversee the development, compilation, and monitoring of the organization’s annual budget. Improvise the budgeting process through education of applicable managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.
    • Establish and maintain appropriate financial procedures and controls to ensure GSNNJ is in compliance with all applicable Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
    • Enhance and/or develop, implement policies and procedures of the council by way of systems that will improve the overall      operation and council’s effectiveness.
    • Ensure the preparation and communication of accurate and timely financial statements, cash projections, capital budget, cashflow, tax filings, investment reports and other financial reporting for the GSNNJ executive team and the board.
    • Oversee the organizational cash management processes and ensure timeliness and accuracy of the cash flow reporting. Oversee billing processes and vendor management. Oversee financial institution relations, bank accounts and ensure cash availability for payrolls and other organizational financial obligations.
    • Develop dynamic financial and business planning models, along with performance metrics that drive the development of monthly and quarterly reports and the annual budgeting process.
    • Utilize financial management software and tools effectively to streamline processes, enhance accuracy, and support data-driven decision-making.
    • Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective risk assessment, internal controls, and financial contingency planning.
    • Serve on the GSNNJ Finance Committee.

    Team Management

    • Supervise, manage, and direct all aspects of finance and accounting.
    • Communicate a vision and strategy for the finance and accounting team, as well as the team and personal goals to drive successful execution of that vision and strategy.
    • Build a team culture of accountability, optimism, excellence, transparency, and adaptability in a rapidly changing environment.
    • Evaluate the departmental structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on individual opportunities where possible.

    Other duties as assigned

    • As opportunities present, we expect our staff at all levels to participate in organizational initiatives and support our mission of serving girls. All staff are required to promote and assist with council-wide programs, activities and public relations.


    Salary Range: $150,000-$160,000/year DOE.

    Requirements

     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required, MBA/Master’s Degree preferred.
    • CPA is a plus.
    • At minimum, fifteen (15) years of experience in financial management is required, including at least ten (10) years of direct management and supervisory experience.
    • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive 501(c)(3) finance and accounting experience; 501(c)(4) accounting experience preferred.
    • Experience working with a board and volunteers in a not-for-profit environment.
    • Must have Budget, Analysis, Forecasting and Cash Management experience.
    • A demonstrated working knowledge of nonprofit treasury items such as receivable, advances, revenue, etc.
    • Ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders, collaborating with other departments to align financial goals with organizational objectives.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective interactions with individuals from all backgrounds and at all levels of the organization. Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders including colleagues, donors, grantors, and financial institutions to support GSNNJ’S mission.
    • Ability to act as liaison among a range of internal customers.
    • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Knowledge of office systems; MS-Office preferred, with advanced level of Excel.
    • Knowledge of database management systems and accounting application systems such as Abila.
    • Commitment to Girl Scout mission and willingness to maintain Girl Scout membership.
    • This is a hybrid role, with two days in our Riverdale, NJ office, and three days working remotely. Additional days may be required in the office or to come to meetings as needed.
