Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages daily planning, operations, and staff of a medical library to meet the information needs of users. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Responds to more complex requests from faculty, medical staff, and students. Additionally, Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) possess broad and current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Medical Laboratory Tech (MLT)/Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)

     

    Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) is searching for a talented Medical Laboratory Technician or Scientist to serve St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham, IL. This role is responsible for performing routine tests in the medical laboratory while using biomedical instrumentation, microscopes, and computers to study samples obtained from patients, and provide data to physicians and health care providers for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This position traditionally reports directly to the Laboratory Manager, and will be based in Effingham, IL.

     

    The ideal candidate is a talented strong verbal communicator with great listening skills, who possesses the ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines.  The scientist or technician will have a demonstrated ability to problem solve, will be able to quickly build a positive rapport with patients and will be able to quickly troubleshoot and resolve problems while demonstrating a high level of accuracy, even under pressure.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Medical Laboratory Scientist
      • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university (including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics),
      • Successful completion of a National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS),
      • accredited Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) program
      • OR
      • Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT)
      • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and
      • Bachelor's degree with 2 years full time lab experience in an accredited lab.

     

    • Medical Laboratory Technician
      • Associate's degree required AND
      • Successful completion of a (NAACLS) accredited medical laboratory technician program,
      • OR
      • Associate’s degree and at least 60 academic credit hours including 6 hours chemistry and 6 hours biology and successful completion of a 50 week US military medical laboratory training course, OR
      • Associates degree and at least 60 academic credit hours including 6 hours chemistry and 6 hours biology and 3 years full time lab experience in an accredited laboratory within the last 10 years
      • Medical Technician or Medical Laboratory Technician or eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as: -
        • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) –
        • National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA) –
        • American Medical Technologies (AMT) –
        • Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) –
        • or other laboratory certifying agency is required
      • Experience in an accredited lab is preferred.
