Job Description
The Chief of Staff provides strategic and operational leadership and support for the Vice President Communications and Marketing by providing management of administrative staff within the office of the Vice President Communications and Marketing. This role supports all aspects of the Vice President Communications and Marketing’s role, which includes serving the University and Advancement as the lead communicator and the lead of all communications and marketing work on behalf of the university and the division. This role is also a member of the Vice President Communications and Marketing’s Executive Leadership Team.
Other duties include:
• Overseeing priority work to meet the goals and needs of communications and marketing.
• Managing relationships and being a liaison with multiple levels of leadership and operations within Virginia Tech on behalf of the office of the VP of Communications and marketing.
• Providing strategic leadership and support supporting university’s priorities and the Five-Year Communications and Marketing plan.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree with relevant experience, or Master's degree
• Strong experience and background in Communications and Marketing
• Excellent interpersonal, writing, analytical, and organizational skills
• Significant experience in dealing with confidential and sensitive situations/information
• Capability of working in a fast-paced environment, balancing competing demands, setting priorities, and working effectively on a variety of tasks simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
• Extensive experience in higher education
• Experience managing projects
• Communications and Marketing experience at the Director level
• Thorough knowledge of Virginia Tech Communications and Marketing platforms and tools, best practices, policies and procedures
