  • I. Job Summary: This position is responsible for participating in the administration of
    student affairs on the Louisiana Campus (LC). The position is under the supervision of
    the Associate Dean for Student Affairs. The Director plans and oversees various
    student events and activities including but not limited to accepted student’s day,
    orientation, VIA wellness events on campus, monthly student departmental engagement
    activities, and student organization events. The position oversees the student
    organizations and assures the appropriate tracking/ distribution/depositing of student
    organizational funds and their day-to-day financial transactions. The position also is
    responsible for answering student questions about advising students in meeting
    professional expectations of being a medical student; and administering other student
    programs as needed. The position also assists the Associate Dean with larger events such
    as white coat ceremony, match day, and graduation.

    II. Job Duties:
    1. Oversee student organizations and committees on the Louisiana Campus and inform
    student leaders of policies for elections, outreach, and fundraisers, etc.
    3. Oversee student organization funds using Quicken.
    4. Oversee and Chairs the Via Wellness Program on the Louisiana campus.
    5. Assure appropriate elections, procedures, and programs occur for Student
    Organization Presidents, Class officers, and the Student Government Association
    according to College Policy.
    6. Oversee student organization leadership and faculty advisor training.
    7. Provide professional development programming for VCOM students.
    8. Assist the Associate Dean with Student Affairs with projects, initiatives, and additional
    departmental responsibilities as assigned by the college.
    9. Work with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs on accepted student background
    checks.
    10. Works with the Department of Admissions to plan and conduct accepted students’

    day and other engagement and retention efforts.
    11. Participates in recruitment events which target applicants that fit in the VCOM
    mission.
    12. Ensure students are provided with information regarding health services provided by
    VCOM
    13. Assures students are informed of on-campus and off-campus resources available
    regarding Academic Counseling and Mental Health Counseling.

    14. Assists the Associate Dean with the planning and conduct of the major student
    affairs program including orientation, white coat ceremony, match day, and graduation.
    15. Attends student events which may require some weekend and evening events.
    16. Interfaces with VCOM faculty and administration, and outside vendors.
    17. Assures to be familiar with and adhere to both the administrative and academic
    practices, policies and procedures of the College as set forth in the Staff Handbook,
    College Catalog, and College Policies Manual.
    18. Submit an annual staff activity report and assure personal self-growth to develop
    skills according to needed expertise, personal career goals, and institutional goals.
    19. Update the Student Calendar of Events and work closely with the Associate Dean to
    keep the calendar updated to balance with the academic schedules (not in conflict with
    exams, major events, or too many events, etc.)
    19. Assist the Director of Admissions with recruitment activities at times.
    20. Perform other duties as assigned.


    III. Required Qualifications:

    Education: bachelor’s degree or above
    Licensure or certification: n/a
    Experience: Experience in a student affair or a related professional environment a plus

    Ability to be flexible in work hours is a must –student events occur on weekends and
    evenings and so hours must be flexible to trade day work hours for evenings at times.

    Must have a valid driver’s license and access to an automobile
    Must be eligible to be certified as a notary public
    Computer proficiency in Word, Office Products, databases and social networking and
    related products.


    Preference may be given to candidates with an advanced degree in communications,
    higher education, business or a related field or experience in higher education or a related
    field.

    The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal history background check.
    Regular, reliable, or predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.

    pounds.

    Work environment: Office environment. Outside travel required about 5-10% of time.
    The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate.

    This position is classified as an exempt position because it requires that the
    candidate/employee exercise independent judgment and discretion regarding
    matters of significance.

    Employment with VCOM is “at-will”. This means employment is for an
    indefinite period of time and it is subject to termination by the employee or by
    VCOM, with or without cause, with or without notice, and at any time. Nothing
