Position Overview:
The Chief Dental officer is a senior level administrative position with responsibility for all dental services. This responsibility includes the authority to oversee all aspects of dental care delivery including planning, resource allocation, growth and development, regulatory compliance, quality, efficiency and the supervision of the Dental staff. This position includes both an administrative and clinical component. The Chief Dental Officer is directly accountable to the Chief Executive Officer with collateral accountability to the Board of Directors.
Supervision Received:
This position is directly accountable to the Chief Executive Officer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other assignments, projects, and duties may be required:
1. Embraces the mission, vision and values of the Board of Directors of Uncompahgre Medical Center.
2. Participates in the organization’s strategic planning and decision-making and budgeting process.
3. Participates in management team and site-focused management.
4. Determines additional program needs, based on patient assessments, grant requirements, funding availability and strategic planning direction.
5. Develops funding resources for programs and staffing needs, implements, evaluates and reports.
6. Develops oral health goals and leads the dental staff to successful achievement of goals as stated in the Strategic Plan.
7. Coordinates operation of the dental program following discipline of general dentistry practice: diagnosis, endodontics, fixed and removable prosthodontics, oral surgery and operative dentistry.
8. Recommends job descriptions, qualifications and evaluation criteria for positions supervised.
9. Helps provide in house training.
10. Recruits and interviews all potential dental staff and prepares recommendations for hiring and firing for the review and approval of the Executive Director.
11. Evaluates staff performance and takes corrective action as necessary.
12. Maximizes the retention of staff including work performance standards, quality of life, workload and equity.
13. Responsible for all oral health services and programs.
14. Provides direct patient care (described in the Dentist Job Description).
15. Evaluates site performance clinically and financially.
16. Responds to patient and staff concerns and complaints.
17. Participates in Quality Improvement Committee.
18. Assists in the development of data, statistics and performance outcomes and measures, and compliance reporting.
19. Hires and evaluates dental staff, mediates disputes to increase efficiency.
20. Reviews/revises Oral Health Care Plans and Scope of Practice as needed.
21. Authors/reviews/revises oral health care related policies, protocols and procedures.
22. Prepares and submits monthly written reports on Dental Department issues, concerns, program status, initiatives, and progress to the Executive Director and prepares specific reports as requested by the Executive Director.
23. Attends meetings and maintains contact with other organizations that affect our mission including CCHN, local and state healthcare agencies and other human services agencies.
24. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications:
· High School Diploma/GED
· Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Colorado
· Current CPR/BLS Certification
· Working knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of dental and oral disease.
· Working knowledge of the principles, standard practices methods and techniques of dentistry.
· Working knowledge of preventative dentistry and educational methodologies utilized in prevention.
· Skill in oral operative techniques and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with patients and staff.
· Skill in working with medical providers in screening and providing recommendation of care.
· Great Customer Service Skills.
· Reporting, Scheduling and Organizational Skills
· Time Management - Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
· Strong analytical, attention to detail, and problem solving skills.
· Travel Logistics.
