Civil Engineer designs and supervises construction projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, railroads, or roads. Reviews designs, tests and assesses materials, and performs necessary data collection and calculations in areas such as traffic forecasting, soil capacity, groundwater analysis, and structure design. Being a Civil Engineer responsibilities also include estimating costs, estimating personnel and material needs, preparing proposals, and establishing completion dates. May also assist in inspecting aging infrastructure or overseeing improvement projects. Additionally, Civil Engineer requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. May require a Professional Engineer License (PE). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Civil Engineer work is closely managed. Depending on the size and/or complexity of a project, the Company may establish that an Office Engineer is required. The role of an Office Engineer is to assist the Project Manager, Project Engineer and Superintendents to engineer, plan, and schedule construction operations to ensure safe, efficient, profitable, and timely performance. The role requires thorough knowledge of project plans and specifications, estimating, forecasting, cost control and quantity tracking, operations scheduling, and interaction with field and office personnel.
Office Engineers typically have 4 year degrees in engineering / construction management or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience and a minimum of 2 years similar construction field engineering and/or estimating experience. The Office Engineer must be able to effectively communicate his/her ideas to field personnel, estimators, inspection agencies and project management staff. Computer literacy including programs such as Excel, Word, Primavera, Prolog, AutoCAD, Adobe, Bluebeam, etc. is required.
The Office Engineer reports to the Project Engineer and/or Project Manager. The Office Engineer is required to sign the "Confidentiality Agreement".
