Civil Engineer designs and supervises construction projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, railroads, or roads. Reviews designs, tests and assesses materials, and performs necessary data collection and calculations in areas such as traffic forecasting, soil capacity, groundwater analysis, and structure design. Being a Civil Engineer responsibilities also include estimating costs, estimating personnel and material needs, preparing proposals, and establishing completion dates. May also assist in inspecting aging infrastructure or overseeing improvement projects. Additionally, Civil Engineer requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. May require a Professional Engineer License (PE). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Civil Engineer work is closely managed. Field Engineer

  • Civil Science is currently seeking a qualified Field Engineer (Project Engineer) to join our expanding team in Salt Lake City or Lehi, Utah office. As a Field Engineer, you will be responsible for executing engineering tasks in various field environments related to the design and construction of local roadway and state DOT projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and technicians to ensure that projects are completed efficiently and meet quality standards. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in diverse settings.

    Requirements

    • Minimum 3-5 years of recent experience in highway/DOT projects is required.
    • Proven ability to think critically and ensure a successful project outcome.
    • Working knowledge of related aspects of civil engineering projects including: materials testing, land surveying, construction inspection and CADD.
    • Must hold valid Utah P.E. license or have ability to obtain licensure within 1 year.
    • Preference given to candidates who can demonstrate experience with UDOT design and construction standards.
    • 18 months of prior experience with technical infrastructure related construction projects, DOT experience preferred.
    • CITP, and partnering certifications required, or proof that the CITP process has been started, with the ability to complete these within 1 month of hire date.
    • This position will perform on-site daily observation of the contractor's construction work and compare the work product to the project's approved plans and specification
    • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass both a criminal background check and driving record review
    • Maintain accurate records of field activities, including project documentation, technical reports, and equipment inventory. Ensure that all documentation is complete, organized, and up-to-date.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to overcome challenges.
