Job description
County Risk Services, Inc., a captive third-party administrator for a public entity self-insurance risk pool, is seeking a highly qualified, team-oriented member for its Liability Claims Analyst position. Experience or familiarity with self-insured risk pools, county government, and political subdivisions is preferred.
Manage, investigate and analyze liability claims as assigned to determine liability exposure (third-party bodily injury, specifically slips, trips, and falls; personal injury including false arrest; bodily injury caused by policyholder's operations; employment practices; errors and omissions); to ensure ongoing adjudication of claims within company standards and industry best practices; and to identify subrogation of claims and negotiate settlements in a timely manner. Responsible for accurate and timely claims-related billing and payment processing. The successful candidate will have proven themselves in the claims industry and be able to demonstrate their experience.
DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
- Managing and investigating low to medium complexity liability claims (third-party bodily injury, specifically slips, trips, and falls; personal injury including false arrest; bodily injury caused by policyholder's operations; employment practices; errors and omissions) as assigned by the Claims Director
- Responsibility for claims intake and file set up for assigned lines of coverage
- Handling claims to conclusion including investigation, documentation, coverage analysis, and subrogation/salvage assessment as assigned by the Claims Director
- Examining claim forms, coverage documents and endorsements, and other records to determine applicable coverages
- Investigating claims by interviewing fund members, third-party claimants and witnesses; obtaining official reports; reviewing physical damage reports; and comparing claim information with evidence
- Preparing reports by collecting and summarizing information in claim file notes as required by County Risk Services
- Calculating and assigning timely and appropriate reserves to include managing reserve adequacy throughout the life of the claim
- Negotiating settlement of claims within designated authority level as set by the Claims Director
- Responsibility for timely and accurate processing of claims payments, including settlements and other accounts payable, the distribution of funds and providing verbal and written communications to fund members, third-party claimants, defense counsel and plaintiff counsel as appropriate
- Managing the litigation process to ensure timely and cost-effective claims resolution as assigned by the Claims Director
- Referring cases to supervisor and senior management as appropriate
- Preparing excess reports to reinsurers
- Maintaining and developing professional and technical knowledge through continuing education resources
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
- A minimum of five years claims administration experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Working knowledge of liability coverages; General Liability, Auto Liability, Law Enforcement Liability, Errors & Omissions Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Employee Benefits Liability, Cyber Liability and Equitable Defense (third-party bodily injury, specifically slips, trips, and falls; personal injury including false arrest; bodily injury caused by policyholder's operations; employment practices; errors and omissions)
- Working knowledge of appropriate insurance principles and laws for line-of-business claims assigned
- Ability to recognize coverage issues and prepare clear and concise coverage position letters
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Must have ability to work with minimal supervision
- Alabama Department of Insurance all lines adjuster license preferred
- Professional certification as applicable to line of business preferred
- Experience retaining independent adjusters and monitoring their assignments a plus
- Experience with Origami software is preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- May be required to climb stairs, and ladders
- Will be required to file, stand, reach, kneel or squat
- May be required to drive for extended periods of time
