    Director of Product – Media Processing & Delivery (MP&D)

     

    Dolby is seeking a world-class product leader to lead its Media Processing and Delivery product management team.

     

    As Director, MP&D you will be responsible for defining the vision and strategy for Dolby’s solutions used by the professional community to encode, transcode, process, package and deliver live, post-produced and music content. The ideal candidate has a passion for audio and video technology and the work the media industry does every day.  You are innately curious and love delivering products and ecosystems that delight your customers.  You have the technical ability to go deep with research and engineering when required but understand that your real value is your strategic thinking, and your business and product acumen.  You understand how the Media Processing & Delivery solutions fit into the broader Dolby strategy and ensure we bring the right solutions to market.  You inherently understand how to position products and ensure they deliver a differentiated product/market fit. You are a leader, taking your colleagues and customers on the journey with you; inspiring them through your expert knowledge and passion for the work we do.  You can interact with stakeholders across multiple disciplines and geographies. You will have regular engagement with external customers and partners, representing Dolby to the industry. You use data to inform decisions but understand that the data alone never tells the whole story, and your deep empathy for our customers will provide your strongest signals.  You can work both collaboratively, and with a high degree of autonomy.

     

    The position reports to the Sr. Director of Creation and Distribution Solutions and is ideally based in San Francisco, Atlanta or Burbank, although other locations will be considered.

     

    Outputs of the role:

    • Vision and strategy for the Media Processing & Delivery portfolio of products
    • Clearly defined value proposition(s) for the portfolio
    • Articulation of the market segments we serve (at a broad level, and at a product level, evolving as we introduce new features or new products)
    • Long term portfolio/product roadmap(s)
    • GTM strategy for the portfolio
      • Including product and portfolio positioning and top-level messaging
      • Channel to market, pricing, licensing etc.
    • Definition and reporting of success metrics

     

    Job duties:

    • Manage/coach/mentor team of product managers
    • Be a key member of the CCD (Content Creation and Distribution) leadership team
    • Drive execution of our roadmaps and commitments
    • Close collaboration with marketing, legal, commercial partnerships, sales-ops
    • Provide clear guidance to Dolby’s Advanced Technology Group (ATG) on areas of innovation that are required to deliver on your vision
    • Ensure we are delivering product/market fit across the portfolio
    • Internal and external subject matter expert on the broad topic of media processing and delivery

     

    Requirements:

    • Be a master of getting things done, even when faced with ambiguity and risk; comfortable embracing a mindset of ownership
    • Broad product management experience including strategy development and long-term road-mapping; history of successful product lifecycle management, and “v1” product releases
    • Strong knowledge of the media industry including understanding of key market dynamics and trends in the areas of broadcast, streaming (music and A/V), encoding and transcoding
    • Creative and innovative thinker
    • Excellent communicator; comfortable presenting complex ideas and information to groups of colleagues or customers in easily understandable ways
    • Experience developing and deploying complex go-to-market strategies
    • Equally able to work on detailed feature requirements with engineering one day and the next day provide, and clearly communicate, high-level strategy and status to the executive team
    • Ability to manage and influence across organizational boundaries and thrive in a highly matrixed organization; comfortable acting as a change-agent in a complex organization
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
    • English technical language proficiency

     

    Desired Experience:

    • Experience leading, growing and coaching a team of product managers
    • Experience with licensed technology and associated legal frameworks
    • Live Sport production expertise
    • Experience with cloud-based workflows and technology

    The San Francisco/Bay Area base salary range for this full-time position is $225,200 - 275,300, which will vary if outside this location, plus bonus, benefits, and some roles may also include equity. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, competencies, experience, market demands, internal parity, and relevant education or training.
