Position Description

At Nevada Humane Society, our mission is to care for pets, find them homes, and save lives because we believe all pets deserve a happy, healthy life. Within this framework, our front desk associatesareresponsible to find good homes for dogs, cats and other animals both at the shelter and at offsite adoption events, while creating a positive experience for prospective adopters. This position also provides information to the public about our animals and services we offer, while assisting with animal control dispatch, licensing, and found animals. Lastly, this role routinely handles a wide variety of animals during the adoption process and is responsible to provide compassionate and attentive care of the animals at all times, maintain a clean healthy environment for the animals and the public.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provides high-qualitycustomer service, including while taking messages, greeting visitors, handling cash, sales, and donations
• Actively reaches out to the visiting public, greeting visitors and talking with patrons and prospective adopters
• Helps people through the adoptions process, including sharing information about animal care and behavior, reviewing adoption applications, talking with applicants, and communicating in a courteous and friendly manner even when declining an adoption or request
• Learns and uses the ShelterLuv computer program to track animals in the shelter
• Learns and shares information about cat and dog behavior, common issues, and ways to make good matches and keep animals in home
• Schedules appointments for animal surrenders and clinic appointments
• Followsproper protocols when intaking animals into the shelter, including gathering personal information and maintaining patron and adopter privacy
• ManagesAnimal Control calls by forwarding and dispatching calls
• EntersAnimal Control cases into the ShelterLuvsystem
• Assists customers with pet licensing
• Maintainsfiles and logs, generatesreports, and sortsand dispersesmail
• Files, copies and collates documents
• Stockssupplies
• Worksandcommunicatescourteously and cooperatively with other staff members
• Promotesa humane and caring attitude toward all animals
• Providesa healthy, safe, clean and pleasant environment and facilities for the animals and the public
• Treatsall animals humanely, ensuring safe animal handling
• Fillsin for other areas and performing other tasks/functions as needed, including cleaning and helping out at special events
• Completesother tasks as requested by Shelter managers and/or Director

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

• High school graduation or GED equivalent

Experience:

• 1 year of Customer service experience preferred
• 1 year of working with animals preferred

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

• Availability: NHS is open seven days a week, as animals need daily care. Availability and a willingness to work a flexible schedule are a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Good interpersonal, communication, customer service, and time management skills are essential for this position.
• Affection for animals, concern for their welfare, and a willingness to accommodate animals in the work place
• Able to show initiative, i.e. seeking out information, finding what needs to be done,and acting instead of reacting
• Good team player, willing to offer help without being asked
• Maturity, good judgment and a professional personal appearance
• Ableto read, write and understand English
• Highly organized and able to multi-task while maintaining a high quality of work
• Flexible and enjoys handling a variety of tasks
• High level of accuracy with data entry and strong computer skills
• Able to learn new computer programs quickly
• Strong interpersonal skills: outgoing, courteous, patient, professional, and able to get along well with variety of people
• Strong written communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office applications

Physical Requirements:

• Physical ability to walk and/or stand on your feet throughout a normal workday
• Physical ability to engage in repetitive motions of legs, arms, and hands, to hear, and to see
• Allergic conditions, which would be aggravated when handling or working around animals, may be a disqualification.
