    Description

    The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for a Data Services - Data & Systems Specialist at the Hogan Administrative Center beginning as soon as possible. 12 months at 40 hours per week.

    REPORTS TO: Data Services Manager, Director of Information Technology
    ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:
    Accurately and efficiently carry out the functions and responsibilities of the role to assist the Data Services Manager. Collaborate with the Data Services Manager to plan, and organize the use of district data services. These services include instructional data support systems and related database systems. Ensure business continuity within Data Services. Assist staff to effectively utilize district data service systems.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Assists Data Services Manager in ensuring a district longitudinal data system by providing direct support, reporting, and supervision of student and staff data and data verification/validation systems (e.g. WISE Data, Rostering, etc.).
    2. Assists Data Services Manager in state/federal reporting functions.
    3. Assists Data Services Manager with course data management functions.
    4. Assists building/department administrative assistants with their Skyward Information System use and functions.
    5. Analyze system problems to determine their cause and recommend corrections when required.
    6. Creates reports through Student Information System (Skyward) reporting tools for district personnel (i.e. data warehouse, data mining, etc.).
    7. Demonstrates superior public relations and maintains smooth and efficient office operations.
    8. Responsible for Rostering data integrity, cleanup and validation (staff and student).
    9. Responsible for WISE Data YE/CD/Oct Count/Spec Ed/Discipline data integrity, cleanup and validation within the WISE data system.
    10. Responsible for the WISEID data system.
    11. Responsible for assisting with daily data validation of student data, attendance, etc. within the WISE data system.
    12. Maintaining all levels of confidentiality for students, parents, and district staff.
    13. Maintaining a filing system for documentation components.

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1.Work with buildings to have an accurate scheduling/course master to support eScholars, Future Scheduling, Alternate Ed programs, and Dual Credit courses.
    2. Assist with the management and support of the data warehouse and learning management system services for Canvas, and Educlimber.
    3. Assist with data mining reporting structures; developing reports.
    4. Provide direct support for custom forms creation and maintenance.
    5. Provide direct support for the student information system.
    6. Assist with staff account maintenance in the student information system (new staff, retired, LOA, resignations, WISEID System).
    7. Serve as back-up to the District Registrar.
    8. Validate and approve student information updates made by families through the annual verification of student information.
    9. Assist District Registrar with PK-12 student enrollment and registration.
    10. Assist District Registrar with student data updates and accuracy.
    11. Assist summer school staff with summer school student scheduling and registration processes including course master configuration.
    12. Assists with parent walk-in and online scheduling support during Summer School and 4K registration.
    13. Plan, coordinate, and lead New Staff On-boarding Orientation.
    14. Maintain Assessments within the Student Information System.
    15. Providing student information system helpdesk support to district staff.
    16. Maintain an expert working knowledge of database functionality and related hardware.
    17. Maintain working understanding of the SIS and its role in system integration.
    18. Performing such other duties as may be assigned.
    Data Services Manager Support
    1. Maintain business continuity of core Data Services responsibilities.
    2. Assist with management of projects.
    3. Create and maintain tutorial training documents for staff.
    4. Provide back up for district parent/community electronic notification system (Skylert) and Parent/Family Access system.
    5. Assist in implementing new systems and modifications to current systems in an optimal manner without adverse effects on current systems.
    6. Serve as a back-up to the Data Services Manager.
    7. Ability to update staff members student information system security rights as needed.
    8. Attend scheduled meetings with administration and staff on behalf of the Data Services Manager as needed.

    Qualifications

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
    A. Additional vocational/technical training beyond high school diploma preferred.
    B. Database Systems experience or certifications as appropriate to current district needs preferred.
    C. Demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively.
    D. Possess excellent people and communication skills.
    E. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
    F. Strong grammar and proofreading skills.
    G. Superior problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
    H. Excellent analytical and numerical reasoning skills.
    I. Exceptional information management/software skills, electronic tools usage skills, and reporting
    skills. (e.g. database, word processing, spreadsheet/graphing, publication, online web tools, etc.).
    J. Ability to integrate between various software tools (e.g. databases,spreadsheets, word
    processing, Student Information System (Skyward)).
    K. Knowledge of and experience with the district’s student information data services software
    applications preferred.
    L. Understanding of state/federal reporting (e.g. WISE Data, Rostering, etc.).
    M. Understanding of special education terminology.
    N. Ability to read, write, and bilingually speak preferred.
    O. Work experience in an educational setting is preferred.
