    Position Overview:

    The Grant and Prospect Specialist is accountable to the Vice President of Philanthropy. The Specialist is responsible for all aspects of the grants management process that aligns with the agencys strategic priorities and funding needs and researching new prospects for fundraising opportunities. This position shares the responsibility to identify agency and program needs, and establishing, maintaining, and cultivating donor relationships to strengthen individual, corporate, and community relationships and develop funding strategies that advance the impact of VNA/ESN services. The Specialist will write proposals and submit reports for the agencys operating and programmatic needs in addition to providing support for annual campaigns and events. Understands and commits to the agency mission. Performs all duties and responsibilities listed herein and other duties that may be assigned.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Grants Development and Management

    Prepare, develop, submit, and manage grant proposals, funding requests, and reports. Manage the full grant cycle process for VNA/Easterseals, which includes the following:
    • Manage the annual grants calendar by identifying grant funding opportunities, planning, and coordination of timely submission of applications and reports.
    • Plan, coordinate, and develop proposals and reports, including research, data and metric collection, budgets, and other support materials.
    • Post award work - meet with key program and finance staff on reporting requirements, submit reports and other required documents, and re-application if appropriate.
    Collaborate, communicate, and meet with leadership and program staff to ensure proposals and reports are submitted on time; stay abreast of program developments; and maintain list of current and future funding needs.
    Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of prospects and donors, including opportunities for collaborative requests with area organizations.
    Create copy for informative pieces to raise awareness of VNA/ESN programming and services.
    Meet annual goals for amount of dollars raised and stewardship activities.
    Work with Fund Development team to regularly evaluate the impact of the teams strategies to meet agency and fundraising goals.

    Prospect Research

    Research and identify individuals, corporations, and foundations to support agency fund development goals using a variety of sources, tools, and techniques.
    Report on findings and work with the department team to identify, build, and maintain relationships to solicit funding in accordance with agency strategic plan, to include comprehensive prospect reports providing giving history and wealth screening data.
    Maintain prospect records and files, including Bloomerang database.
    Internal and External Fund Development Department Ambassador:
    • Raise awareness and promote the growth of VNA/ESN by representing the organization, its mission, and its role in the community.
    • Engage prospective and current donors. Develop strong relationships across the donor community.
    • Educate staff, board members and community about organizational history, programming, impact, and funding needs.
    • Facilitate the involvement of VNAs Board of Directors in the planning and implementation of fundraising needs.
    • Contribute to employee satisfaction through positive interactions, flexibility, and professionalism.
    • Promote a positive working environment for program staff and the agency as a whole.
    • Attend appropriate community events that further the fundraising and community relations efforts of VNA.
    • Serve on committees, coalitions, and collaborations within the community to further the mission of VNA.
    • Assist with fundraising events/campaigns such as Art & Soup and United Way.

    Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

    Bachelors degree required.
    Previous experience with non-profit fundraising, research techniques, and AI (artificial intelligence) preferred.
    Proven effective skills in the following areas: grant writing, grant management, grant budget development, development of strategic relationships with funders, and working collaboratively with staff in identifying program needs and developing subsequent grant applications.
    Effective professional communication skills, both written (technical and editing) and verbal to tailor to given audience.
    • Write/present in a manner that is clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive.
    • Comfortable with public speaking and giving presentations.
    Excellent computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams); Bloomerang, Donor Search, and FoundationSearch experience preferred.
    Ability to read and interpret business, government, and legal documents (IRS Form 990, SEC filings, property assessments, etc.)
    Must be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
    Ability to work independently and in a team environment to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, existing circumstances, and standard accepted practices.
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of standards effectively. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or verbal form. Ability to prioritize, check for errors and spot inaccuracies. Ability to predict the logical outcome of various choices and to make good decisions.
    Adapts to changes in procedures and technology. Willingly learn new skills as required for the position.
    Demonstrates competencies as defined by the agency for this position.
    Maintains client, donor, and agency confidentiality.
    Adheres to ethical guidelines, principles, policies, and procedures of the agency and Association for Fundraising Professionals.
