Clinical Pharmacist directs and develops research of existing and new prescription drugs and conducts utilization reviews to develop guidelines for usage, prior authorization, and updates to formulary. Monitors patient data on drug therapies outcomes, reactions, and errors. Being a Clinical Pharmacist provides education and outreach to medical staff on prescribing guidelines, alternative drug therapies, and risk mitigation. Administers a prior authorization program. Additionally, Clinical Pharmacist requires a doctorate degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Typically reports to a manager or supervisor. Requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Maintains a current license and continuing education credits required in the state of Arkansas. Completion of an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited Pharmacy Residency Program required. Training and Experience: Previous hospital experience as an intern or pharmacist preferred. Understanding of overall pharmacy operations. Requires initiative, good character and the ability to assume responsibilities. Must possess demonstrated leadership skills. Job Knowledge: Must possess good communication skills, both oral and written. Understanding the functions required to provide pharmaceuticals to inpatient and outpatient use. Delivers appropriate care to patients from neonatal through geriatrics with regards to age specific considerations (see attached sheet). Stays current by various methods, which may include professional journals, in-services and professional meetings. Utilizes drug information to improve the quality of care for our patients. DESCRIPTION: Directs and coordinates daily operation of pharmacy clinical services including MyHealth Clinics and clinical consultations. Maintains quality patient care throughout the department based on established department policies and regulatory agencies standards. Assumes responsibilities of the department in the absence of the Director. Supervises the technicians in daily functions allowed by the State Board of Pharmacy. Provides drug information to physicians and other hospital personnel. Compounds and dispenses medications needed for employee, inpatient, and outpatient services. Prepares and properly labels intravenous solutions. Reviews physicians orders for drug interactions and any possible dosage errors. Assists in the purchase of supplies. Prepares and maintains records and performs related work as required.
