Responsibilities
The Application Analyst is responsible for supporting the daily operation of the electronic medical record system; educating customers to utilize functionality more effectively; supporting implementation, testing and follow-up of support issues; training end users; and data mining. The Application Analyst's other responsibilities may involve participation in the implementation of department-specific initiatives, project management, vendor management, education, conversions, file transfers, HL7 interfaces and an understanding and participation in process redesign. The Application Analyst assists in the planning, design, development and deployment of new applications and enhancements to existing applications.
Knowledge of database administration a plus.
Knowledge of scripting a plus.
Essential Functions:
- Analyzes, develops and maintains computer applications, procedures and other systems that satisfy the needs of the user departments.
- Actively facilitates communication with assigned departments to support system adoption and best practice.
- Provides in-service and other forms of continuing education of software and hardware to users.
- Builds information systems consistent with IT standards and in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Participates in definition and maintenance of all system application profiles, tables, forms, screens and base code.
- Coordinates and installs new software applications with user departments.
- Shares on-call duties with other individuals within Information Services.
- Coordinates and participates in both internal and external user meetings.
- Analyzes problems, determines cause and initiates corrective action.
- Develops clear and concise documentation and instruction manuals.
- Analyzes and develops necessary design work, including testing and documentations. Reviews, evaluates and implements requests from user departments.
- Responsible for problem identification, root cause analysis and resolution for assigned systems.
- Collaborates with the manager for issue resolutions and projects to improve workflow processes throughout the department, utilizing a proactive approach.
- Responsible for learning, implementing and teaching new technology/procedures to both internal and external staff.
- Promotes an atmosphere of open communication that facilitates staff input into decision-making, resolution of conflict and collegiality among all health team members.
- Communicates in an effective, professional manner.
- Coordinates, facilitates, participates in and directs departmental projects with follow-through and appropriate follow-up.
- Adheres to all hospital and Information Technology standards, policies and practices. Examples include change control, recordkeeping of application inventories and release levels, provision of accurate status and planning reports, etc.
- Accountable for following GVH policy and procedures regarding confidentiality and privacy of all related work activity and maintaining compliance with IT standards and regulatory practice (i.e., HIPAA).
