    Job Title: Inspector – Code Specialist I

    ________________________________________________________________________Exempt (Y/N): No Department: Technical Services – GIS

    Date: Until Filled Reports To: Department Supervisor

    SUMMARY The incumbent is responsible for maintaining and reporting field data for use by various departments within the Utility, assist plumbers and residence in locating lines and services, and assist with field inspections and surveying. Works with other field personnel concerning problems in the collection system. Works with the public and with plumbers to identify and protect Utility assets. Investigates and reports on potential hazards as it pertains to the sewer collection system.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Assist plumbers, developers, and residents in the field; answer questions pertaining to location of sewer mains, manholes, or service connections.
    • Responsible for ensuring one-call locates are complete prior to excavation by outside individuals.
    • Responsible for inspections in conjunction with the City of Pine Bluff’s Inspection & Zoning

    Department.

    • Field locate sewer lines, manholes, and service connections.
    • Assist Technical Services Department with field surveys; operate rod, measuring wheel & tape, perform basic level work.
    • Responsible for collecting information as necessary for the evaluation of customer complaints and/or concerns.
    • Field locate sewer lines, manholes, and service connections using map data and field technology.
    • Inspect and coordinate potential cave-in with both PBWU staff and outside individuals.
    • Field verification of data to be evaluated for rehabilitation and/or capital improvements.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Prefer Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in on-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    REASONING SKILLS Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS Extensive contacts within the department and occasionally with other departments. Regular contacts with outside representatives, vendors and the public.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Class I Wastewater license within required time by ADEQ and must have Valid Class D Driver’s License upon hire.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include: close and color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
