Vice President of Student and Community Affairs

  • General Summary: Reporting to the President, the Student and Community Affairs Officer leads, directs and manages the recruitment, enrollment management, student life, and workforce development programs and services. Provides leadership in support of the College’s mission and goals to maximize enrollments, to assure effective services to students, and to respond to community, business, and industry needs through market-driven community and workforce programs. This position reports to the President of Nashua Community College.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Manages the student services department including the supervising of personnel; planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services; managing departmental budgets; and overseeing operational activities for the efficient and effective allocation of college resources. Develops and implements strategies geared to delivering quality programs and services to students and the community in keeping with college mission.
    • Plans, implements, and supervises a comprehensive admissions program which includes coordinating the development of college admission standards, developing course placement standards in collaboration with Vice President of Academic Affairs and formulating enrollment management strategies.
    • Accountable for ensuring the quality and measurability of all student affairs programs and services for Nashua Community College.
    • Develops and oversees student life/services programs and activities and coordinates the implementation of the college’s judicial policies and procedures. Formulated policies and/or operating procedures as required ensuring student safety and compliance with college policies and accreditation standards.
    • Oversees workforce development initiatives, strategies, programs, and services.
    • Works in concert with the President and Vice President of Academic Affairs in the planning, development, and implementation of the College’s enrollment management and student services programs and activities while cultivating and maintaining pro-active community relations, and in the development and delivery of workforce development programs enhancing the image and strengthening external partnerships of the College.
    • Performs a wide range of duties related to researching, analyzing, and interpreting institutional and national data, included but not limited to designing, conducting, and interpreting analytical studies in support of the college’s mission in budgeting, policy development, governance, enrollment, retention, and all academic activities.
    • Performs administrative duties associated with maintaining a safe work environment, training employees, communicating job expectations; monitoring and appraising job performance; and managing employee time and attendance in accordance with CCSNH and College policies and procedures, the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, and state and federal regulations for the Student Services, Financial Aid, and Student Life areas of the College.
    • Serves as a member of the College’s leadership team responsible for strategic planning, fiscal management, resource development, and policy setting. Assists the President in the development of operational and capital budgets and prepares admissions, program enrollment, fiscal, staffing, and other activity reports for the President, as required.
    • Works collaboratively with college administration and staff to resolve academic, student services, and community and business education/training issues or problems, which may arise.
    • Serves on various campus and system committees and groups.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the President.

    Education and Experience Qualifications:

    Education: Master’s degree from a recognized college or university with a major in education, higher education administration, business management, student personnel, student affairs, counseling, public administration, or other academic discipline.

    Experience: Eight (8) years’ experience in admissions, academic/career counseling, student services/life, enrollment management, teaching, workforce development or in a related student services or education field, including five years of supervisory or program/project management duties. Work experience in higher education, preferably within a community college desired.

    License/Certifications: Valid Driver’s License or access to statewide transportation.

    Additional Desired Qualifications: Demonstrated student services leadership and administrative experience. Thorough understanding of student development and contemporary issues in student services and student leadership. Experience in strategic planning, budget/financial management, and personnel management. Effective organizational and management skills. Ability to foster collaborative and effective working relationships with diverse student populations and multiple constituents. Demonstrated ability to identify, resolve, and consult on a wide range of student and administrative issues while focusing on institutional needs and priorities. Effective written and oral communication skills in public speaking, personal interaction with parents, faculty, staff, students, and the general public. Knowledge and experience in marketing and public relations including social media. Ability to work well in a team environment. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to evaluate and analyze program effectiveness and resource utilization. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in the performance of duties. Project management skills including the ability to define projects, prioritize and manage multiple projects, measure and evaluate progress and outcomes, and meet timelines while producing quality work. Experience with student information systems and in the use of technology, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other graphic presentation software. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, recommend and implement solutions in a timely fashion. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by management.
