    EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt 

     

    PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:  The Banner Financial Aid Processor will serve as a crucial member of the Financial Aid Office, reporting directly to the Director. This role requires a deep understanding of financial aid regulations, exceptional attention to detail, technological proficiency, and a commitment to the University’s student-centered approach.  

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: The Banner Financial Aid Processor will manage and process financial aid information using Banner, which is a widely used enterprise resource planning (ERP) system in higher education.  Responsibilities include: Financial Aid Processing, Banner System Utilization, Communication and Customer Service, Compliance and Regulations, Recordkeeping and Documentation and Collaboration with other University departments.  

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:  

    • Collaborate in a diverse, student-centered environment, fostering teamwork and inclusivity.  
    • Align with the institution's mission and philosophy.  
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and institutional rules and regulations.  
    • Assist in analyzing, monitoring, and interpreting industry developments in financial aid and authoring institutional policy and procedures.  
    • Create, update, and maintain internal and external processes and policies consistent with system management.  
    • Coordinate with institutional departments to align processes, services, and policies.  
    • Train department staff in the use and functionality of Banner.  

    Professional and Operational Excellence:  

    • Engage professional development activities.  
    • Participate in University committees and work groups.  
    • Collaborate with colleagues internally and externally.  
    • Participate in federal student aid training opportunities.  
    • Train institutional staff and other stakeholders.  

    Data, Reporting and Audits:  

    • Create, update, and maintain reports to provide timely financial aid and enrollment data.  
    • Gather and analyzes data, produces reports, and implements process improvements.  
    • Conduct statistical reviews and reconciliation of all financial aid programs.  
    • Conduct quality assurance testing on processes, systems, financial aid files, etc.  
    • Assist in managing budget allocations and forecast spending trends primarily for campus-based funding.  
    • Assist in annual audits and required annual reports.  

     

    OTHER DUTIES: The position will conduct other duties as required.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • 2 years of Banner financial aid experience.  
    • Proficiency in the Banner Financial Aid module and experience with COD and NSLDS.  
    • Proficient knowledge of federal financial aid regulations.  
    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.  
    • Exceptional self-motivation, integrity, and creativity.  
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and balance competing priorities.  
    • Effective collaboration with staff and offices across campus to deliver high-quality customer service.  


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:            

    • Manage student information system (SIS) (Ellucian Banner).  
    • Maintains Banner financial aid database.  
    • Completes the annual set-up and maintenance of the Banner Financial Aid system.  
    • Ensures Financial Aid upgrades are completed and tested in a timely manner. 
    • Manage and process the import and export of federal financial aid files into Banner.  
    • Manage the disbursement process of financial aid awards to student accounts.  
    • Completing yearly reporting requirements to federal and state financial aid regulatory agencies as necessary.  
    • Write reports as needed using Banner and SQL.  
    • Process all letter generation and email notifications to students concerning missing documents.  
    • Configure SIS in a manner compliant with federal, state regulations and institutional requirements.    
    • Conduct audits of data and systems to ensure the integrity of information.    
    • Serve as the central contact in trouble-shooting technology and operational issues.   
    • Ensure that all functionality of the system is optimized to include, but not limited satisfactory academic progress processing, federal work-study processing, state grant processing, institutional scholarship processing, etc.  
    • Ensure the flow of information between systems.  
    • Review financial aid processes to determine functionality gaps.  
    • Work with IT/department staff to identify appropriate changes in the processes.  
    • Implement improved functionality to enhance financial aid processing.  
    • Assist in managing document imaging.  
    • Manage or assists in managing any system (internal/external) necessary to process student funds.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

     

    • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.   
    • No or very limited physical effort required.
