The Loan Underwriter reports directly to the Credit Department Manager and is responsible for analysis and documentation of consumer and business loans. The Loan Underwriter is responsible to make sure all credit applications are validated against bank policies.
Conduct credit investigations and analyze information pertaining to commercial, SBA, USDA and other government guaranteed loan requests using all available sources in order to form opinions for approving or denying commercial loan/lease applications.
Prepare written Credit Approval Documents for presentation to appropriate levels of approval authorities.
Able to perform financial and spread analysis, credit and lending, and experience working with various types of SBA, USDA B&I and commercial loans.
Remain up-to-date in knowledge and application of federal regulations, SBA/USDA eligibility and underwriting criteria.
Determine cash flow and overall financial strength of commercial borrowers using appropriate tax and financial statement analysis. Possess the ability to spread financial statements and analyze borrower's historical performance and projections versus industry peers.
Able to analyze the viability of various types of collateral including accounts receivable, inventory, equipment and commercial real estate to assess proper loan to value and sufficiency of collateral coverage.
Review and analyze complex bank transactions to ensure proper documentation and security.
Participate in detailed screening, structuring, packaging, and negotiation of loan requests.
Interpret and summarize third-party reports such as appraisals, environmental assessments, preliminary title reports, etc.
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Accuracy and detail-oriented.
Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement structure and analysis.
MS Word and Excel capabilities.
Knowledge and understanding of current federal lending and banking regulations preferred.
Experience:
2 - 5 years previous Credit Analyst or loan underwriting experience.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
