Communications Director directs an organization's internal and external communications strategies and programs. Directs and oversees communications programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its products. Being a Communications Director may conduct market or public opinion research to assess program outcomes. Suggests promotional campaign ideas in various types of media, as well as counsels top management on effective communication strategies. Additionally, Communications Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Communications Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Communications Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.   • Primary Purpose: Corsicana ISD is seeking a dynamic, talented, passionate individual to join our communications team! We are seeking a skilled individual with talent and experience in writing using a variety of platforms. This person must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. The purpose of the position is to promote the news and announcements of the district. This person will support both internal and external communication needs of the district and contribute to an active, demanding, and dynamic communication/public relations environment.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in broadcast journalism, photojournalism, multimedia communications, video/media production, or related field from an accredited college or university
    • Proven experience in the production of communications projects using a variety of communication mediums required
    • Proven track record of strong writing, visual storytelling, digital storytelling, web writing, and management
    • A minimum of three years of experience in journalism or multimedia communications preferred
    • Bilingual (English and Spanish) speaking preferred

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    • Strong video and multimedia storytelling
    • Strong writing, editing, and research skills
    • Ability to generate enterprise story ideas
    • Ability to track and communicate the progress of assignments to the manager
    • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment
    • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to manage large websites
    • Knowledge of AP style preferred
    • Ability to write quick-turn stories
    • Ability to write articles
    • Knowledge of digital photography and photo editing
    • Working knowledge and experience with various computer programs including Microsoft Office and Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and web design skills
    • Ability to utilize content management systems such as Blackboard, Word Press, and Joomla
    • Experience in Web content delivery solutions including RSS and video streaming
    • Self-motivated with the ability and willingness to also work within a team
    • Ability to work with stakeholders at all levels, including the general public
    • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks

     Major Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media
    • Develop story ideas
    • Work closely with the Executive Director of Communications and staff to develop plans and strategies for well-crafted website content and social media postings
    • Manage the CISD District Calendar and ensure dates and times are reflected on the website and social media
    • Produce and edit content for the public, including written and video storytelling, voicing stories, photography, social media, and website content
    • Comfortable interviewing staff and students to generate story content
    • Update frequently web content to ensure updated information
    • Manage the Corsicana ISD mobile app including functionality and information
    • Manage website content, ensuring legal compliance and current information
    • Produce graphics for social media and website use
    • Work with campus and department leaders to ensure updated information is available online
    • Assist the Communications department with special event planning, preparation, and production
    • Attend District events for photography and communications responsibilities
    • Work with Technology and Human Resources to add and remove personnel from directories and webpages
    • Ensure all links throughout the website are functional and appropriate
    • Conduct webpage usability assessments and guidance in support of the department and program-generated online content

    • None

    Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of the computer. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
