Harding Loevner is seeking an Investment Writer & Editor to join its Content team. The Investment Writer & Editor will work closely with our investment analysts and portfolio managers to produce smart, sophisticated communications for our clients and broader audiences, including investment commentaries, magazine-style articles, and other content for social media distribution. The writing tasks involve serving as an embedded journalist, interviewing members of the research team, gathering material from outside sources, and synthesizing the information to produce regular, timely magazine-style articles and blog posts. This role requires a natural curiosity about businesses, industries, and regions of the world with which the writer may not be familiar and the ability to illuminate them for clients. The editing tasks require a rigorous approach that includes helping to develop themes and challenging the structure and logic of drafts produced by others.
This role is suited for candidates who have:
• Bachelor’s degree and interest in the investment industry
• Seven plus years of professional writing and editing experience
• Previous experience as either a reporter covering business, finance, or other relevant industries or at another investment firm or research organization
• Demonstrated experience writing and editing long-form narratives, with clips that show the depth and breadth of your work
• An ability to articulate complex ideas clearly, succinctly, and engagingly
• A zealous focus on clean, entertaining, well-argued copy
• An ability to manage multiple editorial projects simultaneously
• Excellent communications skills, including actively listening to others and knowing what questions to ask to gain understanding
• An understanding of how businesses work
• A curiosity about finance and the role it plays in the world, and an appreciation of the ironies sometimes involved
