Communications Editor Manager manages a staff of editors who write, prepare, and review content to be used in company publications. Develops, implements, and maintains editorial policies and standards and ensures conformance. Being a Communications Editor Manager reviews the team's work product and gives final approval. Acts as advisor to editing team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Additionally, Communications Editor Manager oversees the coordination of production and distribution activities. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Communications Editor Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Communications Editor Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • News West Publishing Company, a division of Brehm Communications, Inc. (BCI),  is seeking a full-time Sports Editor for its Bullhead City, AZ, office. 

    We are currently seeking a talented Sports Editor with a deft touch, solid editing skills, creative flair in designing pages, knowledge of AP style and experience managing an editorial team. This position will assume responsibility for the publications' sports content and design and requires a diverse skill set with the ability to manage a sports news team and work positively with the community members and colleagues alike.

    REQUIREMENTS 

    The responsibilities of this position involve covering a variety of news and require a zest for both features and hard news. The ideal candidate will have outstanding writing and reporting abilities, with adherence to quality standards, and can produce clean copy under deadline pressure. Photo skills a major plus. 

    EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE 

    • Bachelor's degree in journalism/communications or equivalent experience writing stories, interviewing and researching preferred 
    • Experience as a sports editor for a daily or weekly newspaper is preferred 
    • Experience with page design is preferred 
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Mac operating systems, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must; applicants should be able to clearly write a while adhering to basic rules of grammar and newspaper style 
    • Possess strong writing and editing skills; reads copy to detect errors in spelling, punctuation and syntax 
    • Verifies facts, dates and statistics; confers with news sources regarding story leads and verification of information
    • Rewrites or modifies copy to conform to publication's style and editorial policy; reads page proofs to detect errors and indicates corrections
    • Writes or rewrites headlines, captions, columns, articles, and stories according to publication requirements
    • Selects and modifies photographs and illustrative materials to conform to space and subject matter requirements
    • Initiates or replies to correspondence regarding material published or being considered for publication.
    • Subscribe to and implement company’s “reader friendly” news philosophy.
    • Works with stringers and reporters assigned to sports.
    • Teach computer, editing, writing knowledge to section editors and reporters.
    • Assists news desk in production of daily products and special sections as needed.
    • Have proven success in reporting/content creation 
    • Ability to speak effectively with groups of the public or employees 
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form• Analyze data and make recommendations 
    • Highly organized with strong project management skills 
    • Possess valid driver's license 
    • Possess automobile insurance that meet's company minimums 
    • Willing to undergo pre-employment drug, motor vehicle and background screenings
