    Job Description Summary:
    Under the guidance of the associate director for news and media relations for KU Medical Center, the assistant editor for neuroscience communications manages the university's internal and external communications for the neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry departments. This position will be responsible for writing and developing content for a wide range of university vehicles, including emails, websites, reports, brochures, articles and newsletters. The assistant editor also will work closely with the University of Kansas Health System communications team, including cooperative efforts to promote the work of both organizations in the neurosciences.

    Required Qualifications

    Education: Bachelor's degree or above in journalism, mass communications or strategic communications or related field

    Work Experience:
    Five years of experience in communications field

    Experience writing news articles of various lengths for different audiences

    Proficient in the use of content management systems and other digital tools

    Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite

    Experience with proofreading and use of a style guide (AP, etc.)

    Previous experience working independently in a fast paced environment, consistently meeting deadlines as evidenced in application materials.

    Excellent communication as evidenced by application materials.

    Experience working with confidential information (ie. HIPPA, FERPA, etc.)

    Preferred Qualifications

    Work Experience:
    Experience in higher education or related organizations

    Project management experience with multiple stakeholders

    Experience producing content for multiple channels

    Familiarity with marketing, branding or service promotion

    Experience with media relations or publicity

    Experience in cross-team project integration or large project development

    Principal Responsibilities and Duties

    Provide content from the neurosciences departments for various university communications vehicles.

    Serve as liaison to KU Medical Center Communications resources.

    In collaboration with KU Medical Center Communications, manage department university web pages, including drafting and editing content.

    In collaboration with the KU Medical Center Communications Department, support the university's comprehensive brand strategy across the neuroscience departments.

    Work closely with the neuroscience service-line marketing representative of The University of Kansas Health System when appropriate to promote university activities.

    In collaboration with KU Medical Center Communications, consult and advise neuroscience leaders on communications, messaging and marketing decisions.

    Maintain current biographies for faculty in the departments.

    Work with KU Medical Center Communications resources to prepare annual reports or other collateral as needed for the department and divisions.

    Attend selected meetings of all three departments as well as periodic Communications meetings.

    Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Compensation Statement:
    The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
