Community Development Manager manages the economic development lending activities to support or subsidize improvements in the community. Ensures company visibility is established in the area and promotes relationships with groups, agencies, and organizations in the community to identify lending and other business development opportunities. Being a Community Development Manager evaluates the current and future credit needs of the community and develops a strong understanding of the local issues and needs. Actively monitors public programs that support community development initiatives. Additionally, Community Development Manager initiates policy changes or enhancements to ensure compliance with Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and other regulations. Makes recommendations to expand and develop lending programs. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Community Development Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Community Development Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Development Manager

    The Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA) is seeking a dynamic Development Manager to join its Development team. This is a unique position with the county’s leading provider of life-changing treatment and services for children, teens, adults, and families struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health conditions. Founded in 1949, CADA is a progressive, culturally sensitive, and highly respected organization for its commitment to helping clients find their own personal path to recovery and lead positive, productive lives that strengthen families and our community.

    The position reports to the Director of Development and supports of a broad range of high-level, strategic activities designed to help CADA raise approximately $3 million in annual donations. Duties will include but may not be limited to the following:

    The Development Manager will…
    • Actively develop and cultivate productive relationships with individual donors, foundations, businesses, community coalitions, partner agencies, local governing agencies, and the media
    • Assist the Director of Development with thoughtful prospect research
    • Create and constantly cultivate a portfolio of mid-to-high level donors, ensuring proactive contact with each donor information that is continually updated and accurate
    • Work with the Director of Development to create compelling donor appeal letters, solicitation materials, impact statements, marketing, communications, budget and strategic action plans
    • Represent CADA at a wide range of community and partner events and special project committees and other local efforts (including after hours and on weekends)
    • Manage the planning, execution, and analysis of fundraising events throughout the year, including:
    o Scheduling event meetings; securing vendors and corporate sponsors; organizing event logistics; producing event collateral; securing swag; preparing committee agendas; arranging event staffing; recruiting volunteers; and other event-related related duties as required

    • Lead budget tracking process in conjunction with the Finance team, including managing team/department expenses; and tracking budgets for fundraising projects
    • Create donor, organization, foundation and board reports and presentations as required
    • Provide community outreach to share the CADA story, including conducting onsite facility tours of the agency’s facilities

    The successful candidate will have…
    • A bachelor’s degree or higher
    • Three to five years of nonprofit fundraising or equivalent work experience in a related field
    • A high degree of accountability, responsibility, and professional integrity
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks under tight and competing deadlines
    • Excellent interpersonal skills that will foster positive relationships with staff, volunteers, donors, and CADA’s Board of Directors
    • The commitment to support, respect, and embrace diverse backgrounds, values and points of view
    • A strong familiarity with the Santa Barbara philanthropic community and nonprofit funding sources (a plus)

    Must have a valid California driver’s license, pass an alcohol/drug screening test, be able to sit or walk for moderate periods, and occasionally carry and lift/transport objects weighing up to 30 pounds.

    This is a full-time (12 month), exempt, on-site position. Core hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening and/or weekend work required. Benefits include health, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement contribution, and paid time off (vacation, sick, holiday). Annual salary: $65,000 - $80,000, dependent on qualifications.
