Networks with community leaders and officials to raise awareness of specific social or environmental issues. Being a Community Organizer plans and devises action plans to access resources. Organizes community members to work toward a common goal supported by staff and volunteer workers. Additionally, Community Organizer may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Community Organizer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.   • Clean Water Action is one the largest environmental non-profit in the state, with over 160,000 members. We've been working on water issues since our founding to pass the Clean Water Act in 1972. In the Great Lakes region, we have won campaigns to increase renewable energy, fight water withdrawals from the Great Lakes, and to fund lead pipe replacement in the city of Flint.

    We are currently hiring for our staff of community organizers. Job responsibilities for grassroots organizing include educating the public on our campaigns and building the support we need to win through petition signatures, collecting letters to our lawmakers, and fundraising. Ideal candidates should have strong communication skills, great leaderships qualities, and a true passion for environmental issues, politics, or social justice.

    Our staff consists of committed, professional, highly skilled activists. New employees receive extensive training and continuing support on issue knowledge and campaign skills. We have a strong and early focus on staff career development that involves travel and management training opportunities.

    Pay/Hours:

    • $16/hr with plenty of room for bonuses and rapid advancement
    • 2:00pm to 10:30pm, Monday through Friday
