Compensation and Benefits Manager manages the design, implementation, administration, communication, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation and benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Ensures that compensation and benefits programs support the organization's business objectives and meet all legal requirements. Being a Compensation and Benefits Manager develops and manages compensation and benefits budgets. Oversees compensation processes, including survey participation, job evaluation, salary structure development, base pay administration, incentive plan design and analysis. Additionally, Compensation and Benefits Manager manages benefits planning and programs including health and welfare, retirement, and work life. May select and manage outsourced providers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Compensation and Benefits Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Compensation and Benefits Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.      Orgill Inc., the nation's largest and fastest-growing independently-owned hardlines distribution company is seeking a Benefits Manager.  The successful candidate will be repsonsible for benefits administration (self-insured and fully insured plans), plan design, policies and procedures, employee communication including eligibility and open enrollment, employee medical leave and disability administration, wellness initiatives, internal procedural and governmental compliance, financial transactions, recordkeeping, government and internal reporting, vendor contracts and relationships, plan documents, and liaison with brokers.  The successful candidate will also be able to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing laws and regulations and updates to legal requirements.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    Medical/Benefits Plan Administration

    • Monitor claims to evaluate TPA performance, spot trends, and prepare reports.
    • Authorize financial transactions and prepare management reports.
    • Manage relationships with third party administrators and troubleshoot issues that arise.
    • Assist participants with claims/eligibility difficulties.
    • Comply with court orders for mandated dependent coverage.
    • Support, train, and advise HR administrators at various locations.
    • Serve as regular contact for staff, internal customers, insurance vendors and third party administrators. Resolves employee questions and problems by interpreting benefit policies and procedures.
    • Recommends benefit programs to management by studying employee requirements, trends, and developments in benefits offered by other organizations.

    401(k) Plan Administration

    • Manage vendor relationships.
    • Process/monitor eligibility and contribution files to and from the payroll system.
    • Monitor to ensure that the company match and contribution limits are correct.
    • Monitor and report on employee participation by location.

     Leave/Disability Administration

    • Administer STD, FMLA, and LTD leaves.
    • Monitor leaves company-wide to ensure compliance with applicable laws.

     Communication

    • Maintain plan documents and make current summaries and related forms available to employees.
    • Develop and monitor procedures to ensure that employees are informed about their benefits and that enrollments occur on schedule.
    • Design and coordinate annual open enrollment.

    Audit and Compliance

    • Coordinate formal plan audits and file 5500s and other mandated government reports.
    • Conduct internal audits to ensure that enrollment and all other compliance critical procedures are followed and updated.
    • Monitor benefit arrears and troubleshoot as needed.
    • Monitor part time hours worked to ensure compliance with government requirements to offer medical coverage.

     Reporting and Other Administration

    • Create reporting for various benefit plans.
    • Process payments to vendors and service providers.
    • Process/monitor eligibility updates to vendors and service providers.
    • Troubleshoot eligibility issues as needed.
    • Work with brokers on contract renewals.
    • File life and other misc. benefit claims.
    • Manage benefits portal updates.

     Year End

    • Prepare premium modeling for year-end analysis
    • Assist broker with year-end discrimination testing
    • Update HRIS/Payroll system with any changes to benefit structures and premiums

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Excellent problem solving and analysis skills.
    • Willingness to take a collaborative approach and work well on a team.
    • Ability to plan, establish priorities, work independently, proceed with objectives with little or no supervision, and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to routinely handle sensitive and confidential issues and documents while maintaining strict confidentiality.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability.

    Minimum Job Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of related work experience, or, an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Advanced knowledge of and ability in using various software applications, particularly MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google
    • Knowledge of HR principles, practices, and systems
    • Must seek continuous training and knowledge in order to stay abreast of changes in benefits administration
    • Must be willing to travel approximately 15% of the year.
