Compensation Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation programs, including base pay, incentive pay, and performance management programs. Leads the compensation function and works with senior management to ensure that compensation strategy and programs support the organization's business objectives, meet all legal requirements, and deliver value and equitable pay. Being a Compensation Director develops compensation budget for assigned areas and manages budget after it is approved. Establishes data collection and analysis processes for market, pay equity, and other compensation studies. Additionally, Compensation Director may be responsible for entire organization or for one or more major segments of a larger organization. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Compensation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Compensation Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • Primary Purpose of Job

    Manages the development, delivery, and administration of the Bank’s compensation programs (includes but not limited to base, bonus, commission, sales incentives).  Serves as a compensation subject matter expert in the design and delivery of competitive compensation initiatives to drive high performance, attract and retain top talent. 

     

    Major Job Accountabilities

    • Collaborates with the Director of HR & Organizational Development on compensation strategies, policies, and processes ensuring it aligns with bank strategic goals.
    • Devises creative solutions and approaches to compensation that enable ASB to meet the demands of a competitive marketplace while ensuring fair pay.
    • Designs and manages compensation programs and structures, including[AC1]  base salary, bonuses, long-term incentives, equity plans, and retirement benefits to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness.
    • Evaluates and analyzes compensation data to identify trends, assess effectiveness, and make data-driven recommendations for program enhancements.
    • Owns the process of job evaluation and classification to ensure accurate job descriptions, appropriate job leveling, and consistent pay structures across the organization.
    • Manages the annual compensation review process, including salary adjustments and bonus calculations.  
    • Partners with HR Business Partners, the Talent Acquisition team, and hiring managers to develop and review job offers and promotions ensuring competitive and equitable compensation.
    • Stays updated on market trends, industry best practices, and regulatory changes in executive compensation to ensure our programs remain competitive and compliant.
    • Brings an awareness of “skills of the future” and thoughtfully align our compensation programs to evolve in key areas identified.
    • Ensures compensation programs support a pay-for-performance culture and fair, inclusive workplace.  
    • Provide guidance and training to managers and employees on compensation programs and performance management processes, linking pay to performance effectively
    • Oversee relationship with external vendors to support compensation initiatives effectively.


    Experience Required

    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in compensation management, with a focus on designing and implementing compensation programs.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of Leadership or Management experience.

     

    Required Skills or Training

    • Expert knowledge of compensation principles, practices, and regulations, including experience with job evaluation methodologies, salary structures, equity programs, compensation software/tools, incentive plans and retirement benefits.
    • Proficient in market benchmarking and conducting compensation surveys.
    • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze complex compensation data and provide meaningful insights and recommendations.
    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft applications specifically Excel for data analysis.
    • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and project management skills.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate compensation concepts to diverse stakeholders.
    • Continuous learner and willingness to stay updated and adapt to changing circumstances and best practices is crucial for success in this role.
    • High ethical standards and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with integrity, discretion, and exercise good judgment.
