Compliance Director (Banking) manages operations to identify and respond to suspicious activity violating current anti-money laundering (AML) regulations as defined in the US Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) or other governmental anti-terrorist financing programs. Implements oversight systems, interdiction software, and audit processes to perform daily transaction monitoring and identify suspicious activity patterns. Being a Compliance Director (Banking) monitors activity and ensures adherence to Know your Customer (KYC) protocols and regulatory requirements for required filings and reporting. Leads investigations of suspicious activity to pursue corrective actions and ensure completion of required filings. Additionally, Compliance Director (Banking) maintains extensive knowledge of financial regulations, risk management best practices, and changing fraudulent trends to develop and implement appropriate compliance procedures. Delivers compliance training with up-to-date regulatory information and procedures to develop and guide well-informed staff. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. May have the Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certification. Typically reports to a director. The Compliance Director (Banking) typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Compliance Director (Banking) typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     The Role

    The Compliance Director will lead and is responsible for the implementation and operation of a compliance framework for Ascenda globally, ensuring that the company observes all relevant local and international legal and regulatory requirements.

    You'll work cross-functionally across teams to help design and expand compliance oversight and operations to scale alongside Ascenda’s ambitious growth plans and product roadmap.

    Your Impact

    • Be the compliance lead and partner with a range of cross-functional teams, including customer success, product/tech, sales, and operations, to identify and mitigate compliance risks on a range of legal and regulatory issues potentially impacting Ascenda’s products, business and customers globally.

    • Implement and manage a global compliance framework to ensure robust oversight of company operations and efficient rollout of policies and processes. 

    • Draft, implement and maintain compliance policies, procedures and related materials for the company, both internally and externally.

    • Design and oversee a customer and business partner due diligence program, be accountable for diligence processes and procedures and an effective ongoing monitoring program.

    • Collaborate with and guide the product and business teams on new ideas with respect to applicable laws and regulations relating to consumer protection, marketing, data protection and privacy in the fintech and financial services space. 

    • Develop, strengthen and audit our privacy and information governance programs, practices and procedures, ensuring compliance with privacy and data protection laws globally.

    • Partner with the commercial and legal teams to ensure appropriate privacy and data protection provisions are incorporated into customer, supplier, business partner and other relevant agreements.

    • Draft and oversee the development and management of Ascenda's terms and data policies; draft and update privacy policies, template agreements and other foundational resources to promote compliance with evolving regulatory requirements globally.

    • Engage with external partners and other stakeholders with respect to regulatory and compliance issues that impact Ascenda’s business. 

    • Review proposed rulemakings and monitor evolving laws in the financial services space and more broadly which may impact Ascenda’s business, and spearhead initiatives to operationalize and implement compliant solutions. 

    • Evaluate and report on compliance program trends and KPIs; nurture a “culture of compliance” across teams within Ascenda.

    • Assist the legal and/or other teams in other projects as needed.



    Who You Are

    • Influential leader who possesses the ability to think outside the box and is solution-oriented in the complex financial services regulatory environment. 

    • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a compliance managerial position in the financial services industry. Experience working at a fintech or in a B2B/B2B2C technology company is a strong plus.

    • Strong knowledge of anti-money laundering (AML), know your customer (KYC), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), and other relevant data and financial regulations.

    • Experience in privacy program management and strong knowledge of data protection and privacy issues, particularly as they relate to the fintech/financial services industry. 

    • Sharp analytical skills, diligent, proactive, and collaborative, and have demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking. 

    • Self-starter who is comfortable operating in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with an entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to roll up the sleeves and get the work done. 

    • An exceptional communicator and collaborator, adept at working across diverse cultures and time zones, with a proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

    • Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into practical and actionable advice for a nonlegal audience.
