Responsibilities:
- Learns the structures and relationships of university mainframe files and databases.
- Learns the procedures and programs for existing applications systems in the assigned area and those related to other systems, and maintains and/or changes them when so directed.
- Learns to write, test and debug COBOL and CICS/Transaction Server computer programs and jobs.
- Learns contemporary programming languages like Python and Java, and how to write, test and debug applications.
- Uses other languages and report writers, such as CA-Easytrieve Plus, SQL, HTML and Pentaho Report Designer as required. Tests results to ensure accuracy and resolve any issues.
- Learns and uses the programming aids such as text editors, screen mappers, and other enabling software.
- Uses micro-based software and techniques incidental to University-wide MIS systems such as spreadsheets, word processing software, email, and database packages.
- Prepares flowcharts and program-block diagrams.
- Updates programs/jobs to utilize more efficient methods.
- Documents requests and programming changes, files completed requests.
- Prepares batch e-mails to be sent to various students, staff and alumni, using both text and HTML formats.
- Performs systems analysis on the smaller, less complex applications.
- Required Qualifications:
Credentials to be verified by placement officer
- Any combination totaling two years from the following categories:
- Progressively more responsible work experience in IT-related profession
- College course work in Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one year
- 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two years
- Entry level knowledge of computer application programming techniques as such would be acquired in a classroom environment.
- Starting Salary: $2,834/month
