Construction Foreman directly supervises workers' day-to-day work on construction or installation projects. Coordinates subcontractor scheduling and the delivery and placement of on-site materials and equipment as required to execute each project phase. Being a Construction Foreman monitors productivity and work quality to meet schedules and standards. Troubleshoots any issues involving workers, contractors, safety, quality, changes, or processes and expedites solutions. Additionally, Construction Foreman completes or tracks daily time and labor reports. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Construction Foreman supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Construction Foreman typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. TRACK FOREMAN – JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary: Supervises mobile crew of two (2) to fifteen (15) persons to construct, alter, repair, maintain, and demolish railroad tracks, associated structures and components. May work on high production, high stress job sites dependent on customer needs. Receives work assignments directly from the Superintendent or Area
Manager.
Essential Functions:
1. Supervise duties of Track Laborers and Machine Operators.
2. Keep time rolls and expense reports for entire crew.
3. Communicate effectively with customer representatives and others.
4. Understand track specifications and guidelines.
5. Know the proper use and maintenance of all track tools and small equipment (rail saws, rail drills, electric generator, hand tampers, air compressor and associated pneumatic tools).
6. Know and understand all safety rules and regulations to communicate and enforce them.
7. Participate in safety meetings.
8. Wear required personal protective equipment.
Required Abilities:
1. Have competent verbal and written communication skills.
2. Understand and follow verbal and visual communications.
3. Understand and respond to audible and visual signals and warnings.
4. Quickly learn and perform job duties.
5. Recognize, avoid and report potential hazards.
6. Correct unsafe or improper behavior of subordinates.
Other Requirements:
1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
2. Willing and able to travel to various job sites, including those that require overnight stays and those that require short notice mobilization.
3. Responsibly handle expense monies when conducting company business.
4. Capable of working in inclement weather and/or conditions.
5. Capable of covering distances afoot of one quarter (1/4) to two (2) miles per day, on railroad right of way, negotiating steep grades and rough terrain, without assistance.
6. Have or obtain valid driver’s license.
7. Must have previous experience in railroad construction and maintenance.
Preferred, But Not Required
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
