ICE of Carolinas, PLLC (ICE) is a full-service transportation consulting and design firm specializing in highways, bridges/structures, hydrology/hydraulic design, geotechnical engineering, and foundation testing, environmental documentation (NEPA) construction services, and aviation design. Our firm has grown to over 475 employees since its inception in 2005 which includes over 100 Licensed Professionals (PE, RLS, LG, & RLA), numerous Civil Engineering Graduates who are certified engineers-in-training, Utility Coordination Managers, fully equipped surveying crews led by a Licensed Registered Survey Manager, a construction management and inspection division of more than 130, and numerous CADD Technicians and support personnel. ICE is led by an Executive Committee and Management Team who have acquired more than 175 years of transportation engineering experience collectively. We are currently accepting applications for the Construction Engineer and Inspection Internship for the summer of 2024.
Position Summary:
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college degree. program focused in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Prior internship experience is preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated research skills and resourcefulness.
- Ability to work well individually and in a team.
- Demonstrated interest and ambition to learn and work in a competitive, fast-paced industry.
- Ability to work with project managers and engineers.
- Assist with monitoring, testing and conformance of client/contractor work on various projects to ensure plans, specifications, materials, traffic & erosion control devices, quality assurance and safety standards are met.
- Perform engineering inspection activities such as construction observation, conducting field tests for concrete, asphalt, & earthworks under the supervision of a senior engineer.
- Ensure all materials, procedures and safety rules comply with the latest DOT standards.
- Record daily construction inspection notes for CEI document management.
- Assist engineers with development of spreadsheet tools.
- Copy and scan project related drawings.
Desired Skills:
- Junior or Senior pursing a degree in Civil Engineering preferred.
- GPA 3.0 desired (please submit transcripts - unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
- Strong computer skills including MS Office suite.
- Previous experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Must have above average math calculations skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Organization and planning skills.
- Current driver's license with a safe 3-year driving records required.

Expected Hours of Work:
The work schedule is Monday through Friday up to 8 hours per day. The ICE offices are open from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday.
