Railroad Construction Company is seeking a motivated, qualified individual with excellent communication skills to join our Estimating Team as a Lead Estimator. A qualified candidate will be a member of the estimating team and be responsible for all Building Construction / Architectural aspects of the estimate.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Review plans & specification to generate a very detailed estimate for submission to public and private owners.
- Have knowledge and experience in architectural trade work & their scope reviews.
- Have knowledge and experience with unit cost associated with architectural work.
- Have knowledge and experience with producing a construction schedules.
- Have knowledge and experience in producing estimated showing labor, material and equipment breakdowns for rough carpentry and masonry self-preformed work.
- Works closely with chief estimator and want to mentor junior estimators.
- Solicit quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Lead estimating meetings to collect and disseminate information pertaining to the estimate
- Produce correspondence such as letters, RFI’s, transmittals as required.
- Perform quantity take off of building items.
- Have knowledge of labor productivity and costs
- Review scope of work for the architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades.
- Determine possibility of conflicts/delays in the construction process by reviewing bid documents. Suggest preventative steps / alternate means of construction.
- Develop professional business relationships.
Required skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
- Construction background with 10 year’s estimating experience.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Strong work ethic – willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
- Ability to function in a leadership role as a team builder / player.
- Strong knowledge of construction operations.
- Knowledge of construction contracts, plans, specifications and applicable codes.
- Experience with quality program implementation, measurement, and reporting.
- Experience with effectively identifying and resolving issues.
- Exhibits strong management skills and has the ability to lead and motivate employees.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and training skills.
- Effective client relations, influencing skills and organizational skills.
- Previous transit project experience strongly preferred, but not required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Experience using Vista, HeavyBid, BlueBeam, and AutoCAD preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Works outdoors at construction sites and as well as indoors.
- Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction.
- Sits, reads, writes and uses a keyboard.
- May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.
- May be exposed to loud noise.
