Consumer Loan Area Manager directs the consumer loan department of a financial institution or other organization. Oversees the research, development, communication, and implementation of consumer lending policies. Being a Consumer Loan Area Manager analyzes lending data to identify risks, trends, and areas for improvement. Ensures lending volume and profit goals are met. Additionally, Consumer Loan Area Manager develops a productive staff with training and coaching. Monitors compliance with federal and state lending regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Consumer Loan Area Manager manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Consumer Loan Area Manager typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     • 1-3 years of consumer lending experience, preferably in a financial institution
    • Underwriting experience is strongly desired
    • Strong listening skills and verbal and written communication skills
    • Must have flexible availability, including Saturdays (typically one per month)

    What You’ll Do as the Consumer Loan Underwriter (Responsibilities):
    • Receive loan applications from central queue and underwrite accordingly
    • Analyze current financial position of prospective borrowers to determine degree of risk
    • Make lending decisions within credit union policies and guidelines
    • Establish terms and conditions of approved loans
    • Contact loan applicant if necessary for clarification or concerns
    • Search for additional outstanding loan prospects during underwriting process
    • Effectively sell credit union products and services according to member needs
    • Provide support and backup to all team members in the Lending department
    Pay: $22 - $28 / hour, based on experience
