    Primary function is to provide secretarial assistance to the manager. Duties are performed with a relatively high level of independent judgment. Responsibilities normally include composing and typing correspondence, serving as receptionist, maintaining confidential records, taking minutes at meetings, coordinating projects, etc.

    Job Skills and Abilities Required:

    • Work requires, in addition to the skills normally acquired through general high school education, specialized or technical training such as shorthand and medical terminology which may be obtained in high school or by a brief (six months or less) period of intensive preparation outside of school.
    • Work often requires extensive knowledge of medical terminology.
    • Work requires analytical ability in order to gather and interpret data in situations where the problems are moderately complex, and ability to prioritize work appropriately.
    • Must have knowledge of use and operation of standard office equipment (MS office, Dictaphone, photocopier, fax) and the ability to perform at a satisfactory speed-accuracy rate.
    • Must be able to take notes and minutes as a satisfactory speed-accuracy rate. Work may require skills generally acquired through formal coursework and/or related on the job training.
    • Must have necessary interpersonal skills to be socially perceptive and persuasive in communicating policies, dealing with visitors, patients, hospital personnel and the like.
    • Works requires a level of knowledge of secretarial and office procedures relating to record-keeping, filing, etc., generally acquired through one to two years of prior clerical experience.
    • Work requires one year experience with approximately six to twelve months of on the job experience to acquire in-depth knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.

    Additional Notes:

    Candidate must have strong attention to detail.  Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency required.  Ability to adapt easily to new database system.  Some local travel required.  Occasional Saturdays, early mornings & evenings required for events.  Utmost professionalism and strong verbal and written communication skills necessary.  Knowledge of continuing education and event planning preferred.
