    Statement of the Job:

    This position supports the Office of Research Administration by reviewing, negotiating and executing awards and amendments from external sponsors on behalf of the University of Maine. In addition, this position provides guidance and advice to faculty, staff and administrators on federal, state and university guidelines, procedures and policies related to research administration processes. The rank of the position will be determined based on the finalist’s qualifications and experience. Typical hiring range for this position is:

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Grant and Contract Administrator I: A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of directly related experience or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
    • Grant and Contract Administrator II: A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of directly related experience or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
    • Demonstrated understanding of the basic lifecycle of a sponsored project.
    • Knowledge of federal regulations such as Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Award (2 CFR 200), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR’s), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and federal agency specific guidelines.
    • Analytical and critical thinking skills and demonstrated proficiency communicating effectively with faculty, staff and external sponsors are essential.
    • Strong customer service orientation and demonstrated experience fostering trust and positive relationships with faculty and staff.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency with Adobe and Microsoft Office including Word, Access, Excel.
    • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and initiate and manage multiple awards that have deadlines for review and execution.

    Preferred:

    • Understanding of relevant policies and procedures for seeking, acquiring, and managing extramural funds in a university setting.
    • Familiarity with grant and financial related computer applications such as PeopleSoft and federal grant submission portals such as grants.gov and research.gov.
    • Proven ability to function effectively as a member of a team in a high-stressed office environment.
