Brigham Young University's Central Heating Plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Residing within the Central Heating Plant, our co-generation facility produces both electricity and High Temperature Hot Water (HTHW is 400°F @ 300PSI). HTHW is distributed throughout campus via a closed loop system to provide buildings with heat, domestic hot water, and steam. For locations where our HTHW cannot reach, we operate and maintain an additional 60 auxiliary boilers. In addition to heat and electricity, the Central Heating Plant also provides water treatment for campus heating and cooling systems and ensures the water quality of our swimming pools, therapy pools, and spas.
Instrumentation and Control Technician
An Instrument and Control Technician is one of our most valued positions in the Central Heating Plant. Their day is never boring as they work in many areas across campus helping to maintain the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of the Central Heating Plant and auxiliary heating systems through the management of instrumentation and control systems. This includes the installation, maintenance, diagnosing and repair of industrial sensors, controllers, and other automation components. Additionally, a technician is involved in the developing and modifying of software sequences and graphical user interfaces for the various heating equipment.
