Summary:

The Appeal-Democrat, a five-day daily newspaper based in Marysville, Calif., is seeking a new editor to lead the historic and impactful publication. This is a full-time position where you will have the opportunity to see and affect real change in the fast-growing Yuba-Sutter area. Historic Marysville is located in Yuba County in beautiful Northern California. Across the bridge is Yuba City, a growing city with a population over 70,000. The Yuba-Sutter region is diverse and has ample opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. It’s also a short drive away from major cities such as Sacramento and San Francisco.

What you will do:

• Manage a staff of reporters

• Run the paper on a daily basis, ensuring local coverage is a top priority
• Organize and plan for special sections and a monthly magazine
• Possible pagination dutes (experience with InDesign is a plus)
• Copy editing
• Daily and long-term planning

What you will bring:

• Reporting experience is preferred
• Excellent news judgment, strong writing skills and a drive to compete
• Proficiency at using the web and social media
• Strong grammatical skills and a working knowledge of the Associated Press stylebook
• 4-year college degree (journalism or related fields) is preferred
• This position reports to our Marysville office, with requirements to work regularly in that office

Pay: $28.00 - $32.80 per hour
