Copy Editor - Web jobs in Summerville, SC

Lynker is seeking a talented Copy Editor to join our growing team. The Copy Editor selected will be responsible for reviewing all text coming from NOAA's Office for Coastal Management. Products to be reviewed include web text, handouts, technical reports (some 50 pages), slides, etc. The Copy Editor will be responsible for ensuring that the agency's style guide is maintained and the guidelines, as well as standard best writing practices, are followed. Another component has to do with ensuring the documents are meeting 508 requirements so that people with disabilities can readily access the content.

The Copy Editor is expected to not only address writing issues and ensure standards are followed, but also provide guidance and recommendations that will continue to build staff capabilities and enhance the quality of products over time. Deadlines are associated with each job, as well as contact with the document owners.

The Ideal Copy Editor selected will have the Following:

Superior attention to detail
Command of the Chicago Manual of Style, as well as knowledge of the AP Stylebook and standard English usage manuals
Dedication to keeping abreast of changing styles and to reflect said changes in the organization's approach to editing
Ability to perform document formatting for reports and handouts
Ability to work under deadlines and communicate with coworkers and content owners
Ability to understand and communicate the "why” behind the editing choices
Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
Experience making documents compliant with Section 508 of the
Rehabilitation Act

The Ideal Copy Editor will have the Following Education & Experience:

College degree, preferably in the liberal arts
At least five years copy editing experience
