Correctional Officer enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.   • Starting pay $21.50 per hour. After completion of the Training program and probation, hourly rate will be raised to $23.25 per hour. (Probationary hours are usually completed in approximately 6 months).

    MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK ALL SHIFTS: ALL FULL TIME OFFICERS are subject to bidding shifts in accordance with seniority based on the union contract language.

    Shifts are as follows:

    7am to 3pm

    3pm to 11pm

    11pm to 7am

    We are a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week Facility. You must be available to be scheduled to work any day of the week.

    Position Summary

    · Responsible for the care, custody and control of inmates at the Centre County Correctional Facility.

    · Maintain safety and security by directing and supervising activities in the Prison.

    · Conducts searches on incoming inmates and prepares them for commitment.

    · Makes rounds and ensures proper head count as well as the safety of the prison is in order.

    · Documents and maintains daily log of prison activities and/or incidents.

    · Observes inmates, their activities and observes any unusual behaviors or needs.

    · Checks incoming mail, clothing and other items for contra band or other illegal items.

    · Serves meals and assists in distribution of prepared medications to inmates.

    · Ensures all doors, windows are locked and prison is secure.

    · Interfaces with prisoners to determine their needs or problems.

    · MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK ALL SHIFTS: 7am to 3pm , 3pm to 11pm, 11pm to 7am

    · We are a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week Facility. You must be available to be scheduled to work any day of the week. SHIFTS are assigned / awarded based on union seniority.

    Other Duties

    · Assists in transporting of inmates as necessary (i.e., for counselors, lawyers, or to other prisons).

    · Oversees visitations within the prison.

    · Assists in entering statistical data in computer for database records.

    · Performs simple interior repairs, (i.e., changing light bulbs, emptying of trash or sweeping of floor, etc.).

    · Performs field urine drug tests for inmates.

    · Performs other job related work as required.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Education & Training Requirements:High School diploma or equivalent. First aid and CPR helpful. Military background and/or Criminal Justice background helpful. Good communication skills and computer literacy. Must satisfactorily complete the requirements of a Training Academy, ( This training is held at the Centre County Correctional Facility.)
