Correctional Officer enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     Basic Requirements:

    1. High school graduate or GED and at least 18 years of age.
    2. Ability to pass a thorough criminal background investigation, including a medical and drug/alcohol screening.
    3. Knowledge of dealing with people, multi-tasking, legalities of restricted environment, ability to successful pass licensing for Correctional Officer Certificate, and maintain a valid driver's license.
    4. Must have availability to work rotating shifts including days, nights, and weekends.

    DD214 is required to be submitted with the application to gain veterans preference.  

    STATUS AND HOURS:  Full-time, benefit eligible – based on a 40 hours per week.  12.25 hours shifts, days, evenings, and rotating shifts available.  Day shift is from 6:45 am to 7:00 pm.  Evening shift is from 6:45 pm to 7:00 am.  Rotating shifts switch from days to evenings every 28 days.  This position is considered essential, which requires the availability to be on-call duty and the ability to report during inclement weather.
