Being a Cost Engineer - Construction performs data analysis to identify project trends and budget deviations and highlight cost underruns and overruns. Has extensive technical knowledge of processes and materials specific to the type of project. HMS Inc. is an independent cost consulting firm specializing in the preparation of construction cost estimates at all phases of design. Our primary services include cost estimating, construction scheduling, life cycle cost analysis, cost control, operations and maintenance costs, quantity surveys, value engineering, and on-site construction progress inspections. These services include estimating all elements of construction, including civil, structural, utilities, architectural, mechanical, electrical, equipment, and hazardous material abatement. We provide cost consulting for all levels of design, from conceptual through final construction documents, as well as change orders, insurance claims, and expert witness services.
HMS Inc. is looking for a full-time construction cost estimator with a minimum of five (5) years of experience. Familiarity with estimating all disciplines of construction is desired but we will train the right candidate in select disciplines, if necessary. Experience with conceptual level estimating is preferred. This position requires working in our office in Anchorage, Alaska.
Job Duties:
· Prepare cost estimates from conceptual levels of design through bid documents
· Prepare detailed quantity take-off/surveys from drawings, plans, and specifications
· Price materials, labor, and equipment
· Obtain quotes from industry professionals, manufacturers, and vendors
· Compile information into required estimate formats
· On-site construction progress inspections
· Some travel will be required (typically in-state)
Qualifications:
· Minimum five years of experience in construction cost estimating, construction project management, or related college degree
· Ability to read and understand architectural drawings, specifications, RFPs, and related technical documents
· Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe, Bluebeam or similar PDF editing software, Microsoft Project or Oracle Primavera P6, RSMeans
· Ability to work under deadlines and prioritize projects accordingly
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy
· Effective written and verbal communication with clients and owners
· Knowledge of USACE MII software, life cycle cost analysis, and AutoDesk is helpful but not required
Benefits include paid vacation, 401(k) plan with company contribution of 3%, and a health insurance stipend. Salary range begins at $60,000 depending on experience.
