Cost Engineer - Construction develops and implements cost control procedures, documents, and tools to support and enhance project budget management. Collects and coordinates procurement and other cost information used to develop cost forecasting, cost control strategies, and project risk analysis. Being a Cost Engineer - Construction performs data analysis to identify project trends and budget deviations and highlight cost underruns and overruns. Has extensive technical knowledge of processes and materials specific to the type of project. Additionally, Cost Engineer - Construction experienced with the cost-estimating methods best suited to the nature of the project. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Cost Engineer - Construction work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     This role requires strong attention to detail, organization skills, knowledge of accounting principles, familiarity with industry standards and compliance requirements, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Monthly Job Billings – AIA documents, Textura submittals, invoicing requests, lien waivers, billing revisions, certified payroll notifications, retention requests and billings, financial account.
    • AR Invoice entry and receipt processing.
    • AR Past due invoice follow-up.
    • Provide monthly AR detail aging notes to leadership and project manager.
    • Coordinate AP check processing for Subcontractors
    • Review lease, rental, and contract invoices for accuracy.
    • Assist and collaborate with Controller on AP past due or held invoices.
    • Job AP Subcontractor approval including entering approved invoices, handling change orders, and following up on open invoices.
    • Generate job costs reports weekly and at request.
    • Enter recurring weekly and monthly journal entries.
    • Prepare and analyze cost reports, perform variance analysis between actual and standard costs.
    • Track, report, and provide documentation for prepaid expenses, Fixed Asset additions and disposals.
    • Assist with analysis of company financial information.
    • Assist with month-end close and year-end financial audits and tax preparation.
    • Job Prequalification, Set up, and Ongoing Renewals – provide necessary financial reports and documents for prequalification processes, manage distribution of annual certificate of insurance (COI) renewals, assist in insurance enrollment; vendor enrollment and verification.
    • Compliance – complete reports for AISC/CFA, complete annual labor/benefits reports, contract monitoring, provide COI, EMR letters, and OSHA 300 reports.
    • Assist with special projects and other additional tasks assigned or requested for general support of the organization.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and a minimum of 3 years of job cost accounting experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience supporting similar key responsibilities.
    • Experience in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger/Journal Entries is a must.
    • Highly developed mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Advanced skillset in the use of computers and various software platforms including ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
